A pretty good debut album from a (then) unknown artist. While some parts have aged poorly, given that the album is 20 years old, there is a lot to enjoy here. Combining different styles of EDM and Electronic music together in a way that feels experimental, and really showed the potential of Joel Zimmerman.
This album sounds like a continuation of the sound he had on #RICHAXXHAITIAN. Though the Jazz-Rap is stripped back in favor of a more Boom Bap sound, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There is great production and features to be found here. The worst part is the mixing, which muddies the vocals and features.
Overall, its a solid effort from Mach-Hommy.
If The Fame explores fame with a glossy and luxurious sound, The Fame Monster is about becoming aware of the dark truths about it. Through its darker production and more eclectic sound. With the songs presenting relationships in a fearful, anxious, and a darker light than The Fame.
Even on a surface level, it is a tight and consistent pop album with no filler. Where even the deep cuts are just as strong as the singles.
The beginning of the Linkin Park identity shift. Moving away from their nu metal roots in favor of something more accessible. The biggest flaw in this album is the production, as it makes some songs feel less impactful. But where it lacks, it makes up for heaviness and emotional depth. Given Up and No More Sorrow are some of their heaviest songs post-Meteora. Leave Out All the Rest is a song that carries a lot of emotional weight with it. But the closer The Little Things Give You Away is one of ... read more
An excellent follow-up to Hybrid Theory. Still retaining that nu metal energy from the debut, but taking it in a more Alternative Rock direction with this record. Hybrid Theory has the rawness and stronger singles, but Meteora flows better as an album with stronger songwriting, better production, and improved vocal performances. Whether you prefer the punchiness of Hybrid Theory or the cohesiveness of Meteora, both nu metal classics that have stood the test of time.
This album is such a classic man. One of those albums that has strong memories tied to it, or even if you're unfamiliar with their work, this is just so consistent and back-to-back bangers. With bouncy, metal influenced riffs, the usage of electronics, and the contrast of Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington makes for a memorable and unique experience. Whether you love it or not, it's an album you won't forget.
This may not be the best or most polished mixtape, but it's one of my most replayed. To me, this is his darkest and most drugged out release. The experimentation and the beats aren't as strong as on Rodeo, but still contains songs that are worth revisiting.
This compilation features experimentation and unfinished demos, with some tracks appearing on later releases. An intriguing listen if you want to hear some of Joel's early days before Random Album Title.
A bit more unpolished compared to 808s & Dark Grapes II or Blackberry Kush, but this is a great mixtape for those who want to hear more Friendzone x Main Attrakionz in their prime.
Blackbirds is an amazing song for being a throwaway demo track. It would've fit so much better as a bonus track on Minutes to Midnight or A Thousand Suns then here.
Before they started playing a blend of Black Metal and Cyber Metal, they played more traditional black metal. More specifically, symphonic black metal. I think this is one of the most overlooked albums in the genre, as it plays the style without being cheesy which a lot of bands can suffer from.
The keyboards take the lead, evoking a medieval and majestic soundscape. The melodic riffing that complements the keyboard work, and a nice drum sound.
Their best live album. Most of the songs from One More Light feel more organic and definitely come out more live. And the other songs are overall great performances.
The slow emotional ballad of Crawling might be my favorite version of that song.
An overlooked gem in their discography. This mixtape only contains six actual songs but they're all pleasant to listen to. Still containing that Hyphy influence from previous releases but you can hear the Cloud Rap coming into effect towards the second half.
One of their early mixtapes that had more of a Hyphy influenced sound that laid the foundation for the Cloud Rap excellence that was to come. For being released in late 2009 and having a more DIY sound to it, it's pretty solid! Not many weak points other than a couple songs.
70 minutes of corny pointless Spoken Word? No thank you!
Quite unfortunate that this is the same band that has some great records like Night of the Stormrider and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Really taints this formerly great band.
Wildly inconsistent, as you may come to expect in a Lil B Mixtape. Though the bad songs like Like Me, Princess Freestyle, and Dem BasedGod are some of the worst Lil B songs I've heard, but then you have your great highlights such as Wonton Soup, Im Heem and Goodbye. So still songs definitely worth adding to the collection.
Easily a top 3 Lil B project. Positive and introspective lyrics, bright and well-produced throughout. No novelty / filler songs found here, and it's under an hour. Not much more you could ask for!
Solid First Wave Black Metal from Czechia that sounds similar to Root, but with a softer production. Great riffing provided throughout the album.
Talking about the music - it's a crown jewel of Atmospheric Black Metal. An album that takes you on a cold, wondrous, sometimes depressing journey. An album that is emotive and moves you.
Unpopular opinion it seems like but I prefer the second half to the first half. Dunkelheit and Jesus' Tod are quintessential Black Metal tracks, but I find the ambient tracks of Gebrechlichkeit and Rundgang so entrancing. But regardless, just an amazing record that deserves the praise.
This is the most demonic Memphis tape I've heard. It features a couple members from Children of the Corn / Graveyard Productions and Grimm on production. If you enjoyed The Havoc and/or The Single, I'd recommend this! This sounds like its deteriorating as you keep playing it, and I love it!
