I want to get this out of the way. I'm 16, and my mom has dementia. I have two brothers, but they are off at college, so I'm stuck at home with my dad and my mom. When she was diagnosed with her brain tumor, she was given at most 2 months to live. That was over a year and a half ago. She's been deteriorating ever since. At the start, it wasn't too bad. She could communicate about 90% as well as she could before. She would smile. She would laugh. She would show her emotions. But it got worse. At ... read more
Sunn O))) are truly giants of drone. My problem with them, despite the fantastic textures of their music, is always that there is no movement or progression. Albums always drag on way too long, and, on an individual level, the songs do too. I love drone music and long song and album lengths, but I tend to love those things independently from one another. But I feel that, while not quite as grand as their other projects that came before, this is still a rather innovative record for the group. They hadn't fully experimented with drone, and goddamn is this album heavy! This album is masterfully produced, and even the near constant distortion throughout the album starts to lose its edge and ... read more
I find it difficult to properly rate albums like these. That being said, this album is fucking terrifying. I have always had difficulty imagining things (aphantasia) but this album makes it easy. The sobs and classical music make me feel like i’m hiding from a murderer or smth. True masterclass of the genre.
