There's so many creative options in the year of our AI lord 2025 when it comes to implementing a live show for the most famous digital band ever, its hinted at with this show, the stilettoes of the live band are now iconic and the best choice mixed in with members 2-D and Murdoc in the best seats in the house. That being said there's still so much that could have been done the mind cant help but wander what this would look like in 2025 compared to 2006.
The children coming in was ... read more
Field recordings alongside a spoken R&B, its a lo-key blend of everything soft and kind and gorgeous. The vocals could be a little better, the lyricism too feels a bit too confessional diary at times but that in turn brings the intimacy and lo-fi texture needed with Field Recordings, so the balancing act works but refinement is requested teehee.
This album doesn't rank high for me on the KOL discography: That being said the ethos and sentiment of this record really shows KOL in the best space I've seen the band since their debut. I'm excited for what comes next for this band now that they're having fun and found their place in the music. They've also delivered on all their potential with their previous record When You See Yourself, which I think is their best since Because of the Times and Only By The Night ... read more
Gorgeous first half, had it ended with "Stranger Things Have Happened" would have been a classic EP under the foo moniker, but meanders into oblivion by the "Home" closer.
I enjoy the ferriswheel-y soundbite used at the intro and re-introduced throughout the track, but thats the only interesting idea presented here. The studio polish is abhorrent.
The track still puts the album on track to surpass what was delivered with One More Light and Emily certainly isn't an imitator, her vocal is compelling even when burdened down by Mike's terrible delivery and the aforementioned sheen lathered across this thing. This track is being used for the WoW world cup ... read more
So her name is Emily and she’s pretty fucking good. New album, “From Zero” oh shit, how did this not leak.
It’s a well constructed beginning. Are her vocals going to be haunted by Chester of course, on “Lying from you” she couldn’t quite keep up with what came before but she has her own gorgeous texture of voice. The more intricate LP tracks thinking A Thousand Suns era will likely suit her well. I’m also reminded of the “Heavy” ... read more
Great little world builder track, but without an album around it, it seems pretty hapless.
"Foreign Spies" spins like Jonny Greenwoods work "Horror Vacai" which he composed for the BBC a while back particularly "K16" now seems transposed into more electronic textures, the whole thing is something more akin to Radiohead, even Thom's delivery is more "Spectre" than it is "Bending Hectic".
"Zero Sum" sounds the next natural step in The Smile's lexicon of sound, a spiralling of Jazz and rock. Everything else (other ... read more
Thom's solo work bleeding into The Smile. I'm so down for The Smile being drowned into IDM. Thom Skinner sounds ready too, shee.
I want to go over why I'm pretty disappointed in this series of diss tracks.
1. Lack of coherent overarching theme:
The most glaring issue for these diss tracks is how poorly structured and thought out they were despite clear premeditation. Kendrick's Lamar's overarching theme can now be concluded as Drake being a culture vulture/ "coloniser" and a pedophile. Drake on the other hand didn't even manage to present a clear theme at all.
The main theme for these ... read more
Joins Mount Eerie's "A Crow Looked at Me" as a brillant album I never want to listen to again.
Another example of a great and exciting artist struggling to make a coherent album. The songs themselves are actually quite good as singular worlds, as the MV's released for "Ok" and "E-girl" show. Unfortunately, with all these songs packed together, the album falls apart, begging to be picked apart and placed into playlists, perhaps its just a product of its time.
Remember the first listen on this one, just finished a school camp, on the long bus ride back I asked for my friends (now best friends) iPod and he had this playing threw it on and only this for the entire 2+ hour ride. It's still Coldplay's best and a bright light in the world of popular rock music. The middle section of this album in particular stands alone in big arena rock made into intimate little acoustic moments.
Recurring waves of nostalgia on this one, felt like I was remembering pieces of every game I've ever played all at once.
Each year, Thom Yorke comes out with his best song ever. I'm still not over this track.
