I have my qualms with modern Jazz - well, actually, it's just my own personal taste, but the Jazz that I'm interested in is like the 50s-70s period, where it was kind of like the peak of innovative ideas and ambitious musicianship and composition. Modern Jazz just doesn't do it for me very often, because they mostly feel like lesser versions of the all-time greats, and I also haven't done a deep dive to see if there were any new innovators in the genre, so it mostly feels stale to me.

Always passively enjoyed Dua Lipa ever since she had her first hits, never really thought much of her in one way or the other, but when she got a lot of praise for Future Nostalgia, I definitely saw that many people even perceive her as far superior to most female artists within the pop realm. It wasn't enough to convince me to listen to her music, Pop is just a genre that I am very picky in, but I definitely still recognized the funkiness and production value within the tracks that I heard ... read more
IDLSIDGO is an improvement on pretty much all fronts when compared to his debut, as it features a much more cohesive sound palette and thematic approach, as well as a tighter track list. It feels much more focused, I love the weirdly atmospheric and synth-y/electronic piano/retro or whatever type of sound on this project, the features aren't overwhelmingly present anymore and the song are some of his most compelling up to this point in his career. It has a great length, short enough to not be ... read more
I consider Earl to be one of my favorite rappers alive, for a time he was the definitive favorite for me, but going back to his old stuff definitely makes me appreciate the newer work much more. Not that Doris is a bad project by any means; in fact, I think it is quite great for such a young artist at the time. However, I do think that he just doesn't display the artistic growth that I love him for so much on this record. Not only do I think a little bit of the production on this album hasn't ... read more
so funny that it takes a whole ass genocide to motivate this guy to make good music
Songwriting-wise a little sloppy with the switches but there are some tough accusations and good bars in here that easily work as a decent response to Kendrick.
this is the funniest shit of all time, at this point I'm convinced all that Kendrick has been working on since Mr.Morale is Drake Disstracks
"Fuck a rap battle, this a long life battle with yourself"

I never listened to anything by Women or by Pat, the only real exposure to this person's music was the Cindy Lee song "I Don't Want To Fall In Love Again", which was randomly recommended to me on Youtube a couple of years ago, where it left a strong impression on me with its aesthetic in the music and video, but I never really looked further into this project afterwards, though I did revisit the track a few times over the years.
With that said, I must admit that it's very difficult to ... read more
Ever since I decided to give some albums that never got a 100 from me (for minor issues) a perfect rating on this site, I've been giving out 10/10s left and right, but what can I do, the music I recently discover is just incredible, and so is Sade's Love Deluxe. I was already really in love with her debut Diamond Life, but this just knocks it out of the park. On first listen I was already head-over-heels for this thing, but the more I listen to it, the more I discover just how amazing the album ... read more
Maruja kind of made a big splash in 2023 with this EP within the realm of music nerd circles and I can see why. An eclectic mix of genres and styles, very hard-hitting sound and abrasive instrumentation, very emotional vocals laid on top of it... it's kind of like a wet dream for this exact type of listener that you know is gonna listen to it. I'm not sure why I never gave it a shot last year, it was always in my perception but last year just wasn't a very rock-oriented listening year for me, ... read more
It requires nothing more than Pieces of a Man to solidify Gil Scott-Heron as one of the greatest and most important artists of the 20th century, in my opinion. This album is excellent on so many levels that you almost need to break it down piece by piece almost in the same way that I listened to the project, so focusing on different elements one by one. Knowing Scott-Heron for his poetry, one obviously must pay close attention to the lyricism on this project, and with the iconic spoken-word ... read more
I might like The Velocity of Love even more than Seven Waves, but Suzanne Ciani is the queen of synths and you can't go wrong with her early catalog. This album is just one soothing and ethereal piece of electronic music after another, and the emotional reactions that it can get from me are quite interesting. It's a mix of nostalgia, dreaminess and freshness that just draws me in. I'm sure that this sound can come off as a bit dated or cheesy for some people, but that's just something that one ... read more
This album is like Miles Davis' Kind of Blue but for Hip-Hop; if you first listen to all the crazy shit that came out afterwards with exciting genre fusions and compelling reinventions of the sound, you might find yourself going back to it and think: "Well, this is kind of boring". At least that's how I felt about that album and about Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) on my first listens. I knew the cultural and historical impact Wu-Tang had with their style and aesthetics, I was aware ... read more
For only being thirty minutes long, this thing is filled to the brim with character, energy, catchy melodies and funky rhythms. Prince's genre-fusions here are excellent and truly make for an album that is exciting, danceable, but also very unashamedly raunchy. The title of the album definitely does justice to the content: sometimes the grooves are so captivating that you forget just how lewd a lot of the songs on here are. Sometimes going a little too far too (*cough* *cough* Sister *cough* ... read more
I was very excited for Nia Archives' debut LP ever since I first heard her single of the same title "Silence Is Loud", the way that song hooked me with its intoxicating sound made me eager to hear what a full body of work from this artist would sound like, and I am certainly not disappointed. To get the bad out of the way first, I must say that there simply are some tracks on here that are too brief to feel satisfying or offer a proper progression to make them stand out, I just don't ... read more
I adore the original WELCOME HOME, so this rating is only for the added Deluxe songs. Adding 5 minutes of material on a 9 track album and calling it a deluxe is kind of ridiculous, and I was actually so excited for this release so seeing it be so underwhelming is a bit of a bummer, but I can't say that I don't like the tracks. You can't tell me that there weren't at least two tracks or more that he could've added on top, but what we got is still cool. I just like this era and sound, I'm very ... read more
Tim Buckley is one of my favorite artists of all time, and this record is really underrated in my opinion. In my mind, this album is nearly as good as Happy Sad in terms of his songwriting ability, singing talent and atmosphere. The soundscapes Tim creates are unbelievable and his emotive singing is matched by few, and the only thing that drags this LP down for me is that it is kind of just a continuation of the more tame aspects of his previous record. It's simply not as adventurous as the ... read more
