> writes whole album about how horny he is and women shaking ass

By far the best thing that they've ever put out, MAN BITES DOG is an incredible improvement from the "rave slop" singles of their past, truly leaning into their Digital Hardcore stylings. Sadly, all the same complaints of derivative writing and samish tracks can apply. There's nothing wrong with wearing your influences on your sleeve, but when that's all you have on it's just tacky.
At the crossroads of BIG|BRAVE and John Zorn lies Backengrillen, a bloated corpse rotting in the sun that you fail to turn away from. Heavy distortion and far out performances across the record, these guys bring forth a great, while repetitive, first showing. Can't wait to see what else these guys do!
I cannot understand the hype behind this record. Behind its hyper-meta songwriting and its easy listening production, there's nothing for me to care about when it comes to what she's saying. Not a single song on here is worth revisiting, and dragging this out to almost an hour just feels like a personal waste of time.
The memories of those in the background of a beloved picture. Vague recollections of a childhood show, the commercials interspersing themselves amongst what you remember of the plot. Repetitions like a hall of mirrors, ever changing yet all familiar. The total deconstruction of thought.
Truly at a loss for words. A remarkable mix of the sludgy and the serine. An experience not unlike having your heart curb stomped repeatedly. Holy fucking shit.
There are many words that I could use to describe their debut album here: perplexing, eccentric, exhilarating, confusing, ballbusting; none of them properly articulate just how brilliant this truly is. Its pushing pop to its outermost reaches, tripping down the steps of music. Nonstop stream of consciousness lyrics overtop of these Rube Goldberg-esque instrumentals, each new concept pushing over a book that hits a pair of scissors that cuts a string that rolls a marble down a track that hits a ... read more
A nothing of an album that does nothing with its genre, gives nothing with its content, and expresses nothing emotionally. Slick production trying its hardest to emulate the greats of its niche (umru, Arca, SOPHIE, etc.) is all gewgaw, and the I'm-14-and-this-is-deep writing is insufferable when its not hiding behind the excessive vocal effects and aforementioned production. Never have I heard an album that more greatly embodies "all that glitters isn't gold."
Swordfish snubbed
While on the surface it seems like this would be a shitpost, what this album actually delivers is reverb drenched microtonal bliss. The ocean isn't the peaceful place you'd think. Its nasty, at times disgusting, but still all the while full of wonder.
Dave sounds like he's finally hit his stride on this album. By far his most focused project, everything about this is a step up from his previous two efforts. His lyricism is razor-sharp, his imagery is as poignant as ever, and his beats are more consistent than they've ever been. Sadly, though, the beats are what brings this whole experience down for me. This style of faux-cinematic, piano driven instrumentals (reminiscent of the worst parts of NF) don't do anything for me ... read more
A very up and down experience, with Baroque being by FAR the standout track in my eyes. These guys have a fantastic ear for that mid-oughts pop-y sound, almost TOO good of an ear at times, making it seem just as generic as a lot of that music sounded at the time. I'm all for looking at the past with rose-tinted goggles, but I would hope that they'd focus on what made it great instead of just good. Circling back to Baroque, I would LOVE to hear them dip further into that grungy sound! ... read more
listened to this while playing Co-Op Wizard Tycoon with @ephemerality, good times had by all!
🎶 Fuck all nigggght 🎶
A dense, heavy fog prevails across the land as murders of crows fly overhead on this Rooster's sophomore album. Intensely strange yet laid back, what is delivered here is more than likely the most experimental that cloud rap is going to get in 2025, if not the whole decade as Rooster's vocals lull you through the experience.
Since the release of SPIRAL in 2022, Frost Children have been much more than just a favorite band for me. It's become a sort of lifestyle, and through their music and art I have made countless friends and connections, and have even had the privilege of meeting them in 2024. Listening to this album is such a beautiful moment for me, seeing them further explore more and more chaotic soundscapes and continuing to refuse any boxes others want to force them in. They can rage, like on ELECTRIC ... read more
"When I think of Heaven, deliver me in a black-winged bird
I think of flying down in your sea of pens and feathers
And all other instruments of faith and sex and God
In the belly of a black-winged bird"
Such a beautiful, poetic album. Love you, Mom. Thanks for being the first person to show me music and all it can be.
The audio equivalent of a shattered window on a sunny day, I'm laying on the floor watching the millions of tiny rainbows scattered across the living room as the light shines through the cracks and grooves.
