My favorite 90s record! Influenced by The Cure and perfectly mashing dream pop with heavy rock into this hypnotic push-pull cocktail. They have the best timbre of any '90s alt-rock act, without a doubt. How can something rock so hard yet sound as plush as a pillow? That's the magic of The Smashing Pumpkins.

Covers the mumbo jumbo rigmarole of hooking up, the boy/girl game bullshit if you will, with each song covering falling in love, cheating, lust, and being sick of acting like we don't know what's up--playing stupid. It's like 69 love songs but shorter, louder, smarter, and just plain better. As someone who is exhausted by hook-up culture and aware of the high divorce rates ahead it's a real pleasure hearing someone lay it down so real.

Hot Take: This may be the best of the trilogy (Trilogy is bad to mid).

Why? Because of it's honesty and openness alongside it's stripped and beautiful sound and because it's shorter.
