What an abysmal album. Completely devoid of creativity or identity, Logic pulls us through a soulless retread of name-drops and jazz loops that have been done to death. The least necessary album of 2020.
Ok listen, I love Lil Uzi Vert. More than most. I think he's one of the best hip hop artists currently working. Despite not having the most consistent discography, the highs are undeniable, and this album fits that. It start pretty weak, with the only standout track of the first 6 or so being Lo Mein. Everything else is boring triplet flows over spacey trap beats. I don't know why Uzi does this. Lyrics are not his strong suit. Boom boom bop ba boom boom bop (repeat for an hour). That's this album. It's the same song the whole time. Such little variation in sound it's obnoxious. The first time I listened to it, I legitimately checked to make sure they weren't sampling the same drum loop over and over again. This album should be a substitute for melatonin.
Mac Miller has basically shed any 'hip hop' labeling and gone full indie jazz pop. And he ain't half bad at it either. Plenty of great tracks on here. Good News is a clear highlight, as well as Complicated and Blue World. Unfortunately, the second half drags a bit and the lyrics aren't quite as focused as Swimming's were.
