SWEET MICROTONAL GOODNESS!

For a band as prolific as King Gizzard in terms of both genre hopping and album output, there was no doubt that they were bound to return to a familiar territory at some point. In fact, their first microtonal venture, Flying Microtonal Banana was aptly subtitled 'Explorations in Microtonal Tuning Vol. 1' as the album cover of K.G. clearly has the label Vol. 2. But does this mean the band has run out of ideas?

The album opens with an eerie and mystical instrumental ... read more

Two Ribbons is a beautiful and heartfelt musical ode to friendship that explores the relationship between the duo themselves. Members, Rosa and Jenny are childhood friends and you can just hear it in the lyrics, how much of a personal and emotional project this is. From the swampy and mystical lo-fi sound of their debut to the ambitious synthpop and electronic rock of the second, the third one sees them delve further into the sophomore's sound with songs like 'Watching You Go' and 'Insect ... read more

I was expecting more of the same stuff like SHYGA but was fairly surprised if not so much. I think it might just be slightly better than that and also their 3rd album with the weird name that I can't spell. There is a good balance of slower acoustic ballads and energetic jams here and I feel like the songwriting is also overall better. Clearly, this is a band comfortable in their sound. It's a banging record ... read more

ABSOLUTE MADLADS! Talk about scratching all the itches. This is a milestone album for the band, and it perfectly showcases their musical abilities. Apart from taking on the sounds they explored previously, they also touch new sort-of unexpected territory; which is a slap on the face on anyone who claimed that the band had run out of ideas and couldn't surprise anymore. The production is near flawless and you can just hear how much being together in the studio benefitted the songwriting. While ... read more

 - Wet Leg

Wet Leg is the least interesting band to come out of the British post-punk scene but that doesn't mean they are absolutely bad and talentless. These women know how to make some really catchy guitar music. It's not forward thinking or anything, but it's quite fun and sometimes that is good enough. The singing is alright and the lyrics are stupid and silly. I don't know... I actually kind of like this.
