About 5 listens in. Can’t actually call it a mature lyricism, just felt like a trauma dump that didn’t feel authentic all the time with no actual substance relating to the diversity of the tracks. This is why I’ve been a fan of Cole for so long. For me he is the greatest rapper and storyteller of the century consistently. Already on my 5th listen while writing this review. The skills displayed on Fall Off alone should make you rethink your list if you have one and give him the proper flowers he deserves, as he retires now. *3 listens in* People have to understand if an artist takes years between their albums, doesn’t mean they have been working on that album for that long. They are living life, diversifying their income streams and doing something they want. Stop saying “8 years for this”. If he didn’t drop in 8 years, it’s his choice. Doesn’t mean he was perfecting just 1 album during that time. He didn’t HAVE to make DBD a magnum opus.
