冥丁 [Meitei] - Kofū III

I think the range of music that I listen to is pretty wide. But sadly, when it comes to instrumental albums, I can't quite appreciate them as much as I'd like to. For whatever reason, vocals are pretty essential to me, and the instrumental albums that I do return to, tend to be soundtracks from movies/shows/games, as they have an additional layer of nostalgia to them.

This isn't the first Meitei album that I have listened to, so I knew what to expect, and it left me behind with a very similar ... read more

유키카 [YUKIKA] - Time/Lapse

It's sad that this marks the end of her career, but at least it's a good way to finish. I'm often a fan of remake albums (IU's and Joy's come to mind). Yukika picks songs that are absolutely in her wheelhouse and does the songs justice. Yukika's pleasant voice is like honey, and it's sad when the album ends, as you can't help but be greedy for more songs.

It's honestly everything you'd expect and want from Yukika. Thanks for everything.

King Gnu - THE GREATEST UNKNOWN

Similar to Vaundy's recent album, this is just a bunch of Singles put into one album. Whether they fit together or not, isn't important, which is why the end result isn't as good as a properly planned album could be. Some Japanese artists just love being Single artists.

Nothing screams weeb as much as listening to ikimonogakari does
Namie Amuro - Sweet 19 Blues

Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, Namie Amuro and Koda Kumi. These are the 4 names that I could never escape when it comes to the "Queens of J-pop". Each one of them have/had a long-lasting career with impressive peaks in terms of popularity. Utada Hikaru I'm the most familiar with, having watched all her MV's and many performances, listened to all her albums and is generally someone I have been familiar with since I was a kid. She is the only one, out of all of them, where I would say ... read more

Thank you for participating! I'll probably include XG in the list as most people consider them to be part of the K-pop scene. I'll let you know once the list is finished.

Hey! Yes, good point. In this case K-pop refers mostly to idol music, but I'm not opposed to including other Korean pop music as well :)

Hi, hope you are doing well!
As the end of the year approaches, I am asking AOTY's K-pop listeners what their favourite K-pop songs of 2023 were for a year-end list. What songs were your personal stand-outs/favourites of 2023, and why? Any amount of songs up until 15 is fine, title tracks, singles and B-sides are all included.

I would really appreciate it if we get enough responses to turn this into a proper community list. Thank you in advance! :)

I guess for album it's Koto's "PLATONIC PLANET" and Serani Poji's "One Room Survival". It kinda surprises me how low the number of rating those 2 albums have on this site, especially "One Room Survival".

And ofc, "Ho-Kago Tea Time II" by Ho-kago Tea Time. Best animu band even to this day.

Gotcha gotcha lol. While we're at it, you have any JPN that you think deserves way more recognition?

Ah I see. I was looking at your "Best of Japan" list and notice the lack of japanese rock hence the question.

How familiar are you with japanese rock?

Idk how or where you’re finding all these Japanese artists/albums but keep em coming hahaha

hi thanks for the follow! btw i'm making a list for my 250 subs so as i see you're into kpop, i'd like to ask you something. can you share 3 kpop projects by a girl group: 1. one you'd recommend to anyone, 2. one you consider as an important release, and 3. one you simply love ?

About

Mostly listening to Korean and Japanese music.

Singles are only being added, if they aren't part of an album (with exceptions).

Generally speaking, the way I rate everything, be it movies, shows or music, is by trying to use as much of the scale as possible. I think only then, the ratings have more weight to them. 50 is the middle, and most works will end up around this area. An album needs to get at least a 60 to be added to my library, meaning it's something I can see myself returning to.
