Pleasantly surprised (frankly, blown away) by the leap this duo made between their debut and their second LP. Unlike some of their less serious mixes that appear to have a more generic spread of pop tropes, this album feels much more coherent and tight while still having their charming personalities front and center. I noticed this specifically with how the singles felt rather hit or miss for me, but within the context of the album, I grew to love each of them like I did the rest of the album.
Similar to groups that have pun names, M*nnequin Pussy was one of those groups I never gave a chance because I thought it was a corny provocative name, but giving this short project a shot was one of the best decisions I have made in a while. I haven't really enjoyed many albums released in the last few years, so finding something that scratches that itch was a nice surprise.
I honestly had a mostly neutral and apathetic response to this. I didn't even notice that this album was released until days after the fact, when over a decade ago I would be scrambling to torrent his latest album hours after its release. Very few solid house music albums [very few in general (this site has a subgenre of vaporwave but no house OR garage genre listed)], and this was lightning in a bottle for a duo that never came close to producing anything comparable to it.
