I first heard Glass Beams at the Forwards music festival in Bristol and oh man, they were amazing live. They have the perfect sound to be forced into the ears of giant crowds with massive speakers. After this, I knew I had to check them out and even though they are not as good on streaming as in the festival, they are still pretty good.
Their second EP “Mahal” is an extremely psychedelic album with both Western and Eastern influences that is also reflected in their fashion style. ... read more
Beware!!! ~1500 Word Review Below!!!
Before watching La La Land, I thought that it would just be another standard musical for old timers, but I was extremely wrong. It is an amazing musical with a great soundtrack to follow it.
“Another Day of Sun” is one of the most vibrant songs that I have heard recently. It is a celebration of music and dreams, with an infectious melody and acting as a masterclass in music composition. It has thick layers of harmonies with fun rhythms and a ... read more
Recently, my interest in underground drum and bass has risen, so I will be reviewing more albums from that style these days.
The first song “Theme of Cythoni” does not present anything inherently interesting, but just puts common Ambient Elements together.
“Death of the Endless” already starts more strongly, with a pretty good breakcore beat and soaring synths. This one reminds me quite a bit of the previous album that I listened to: “Machine Girl - Neon White ... read more
I have never played and probably never will play Neon White, but I had to review the soundtrack after I heard “Glass Ocean”.
“Glass Ocean” is the best breakcore song I have ever heard, constantly changing the instruments and using synths and bases which go perfectly with the hypnotising breakbeat drums. The machine sounds which appear all throughout the track also give so much mystery and depth and the synths which sound halfway between heaven and a computer utopia ... read more
Despite the constant energy in this album, with the ear shattering bass, lively drums and dynamic vocals, there are many moments where the album becomes a bit stale. With all of the energy that is injected into this project, there is no room for much substance in the lyrics and other instruments.
Still, I love the subtle variation throughout the songs, such as the synths brought out in “WHAT U NEED” and the chords in “LIKE A PUNK”. “NO HANDS” is another ... read more
Despite some of the quite random and disjointed moments on this EP, I still enjoyed it massively.
The beats on these songs are some of the best I have heard in the genre, being quite simple but not generic enough to be too repetitive. Other than the beats on most of the songs, the other instrumentation on ACT RIGHT and P3T is quite boring, with the vocals contributing minimal.
PUSH UR T3MPRR and KATAMARI are two songs I adore from this EP because of there constant surprises and hellish choped ... read more
All throughout the album, the lyrics are fun loaded with fun wordplay, allowing the album to shine next to all of the other albums released in the fairly new genre of hip hop.
Some of the sampling and other instrumentation can be extremely creative and interesting in songs such as “The Magic Number” but can be quite boring in other places and annoying in others (such as the sex Interlude “De La Orgee”, which many early rap albums had for some reason).
There is also ... read more
I have long admired C418’s talent that he clearly displayed in Minecraft Volume Alpha and Beta, but now I think it is finally time to dive into one of his other works.
click is one of C418’s best works, even with the Minecraft soundtracks he made. It contains 8 and a half minutes of oscillating synth, beautiful ambient chords in the background, a slow and simple, but effective drum beat, strangely magnificent piano chords at the start and so much more. There are many moments in the ... read more
Yesterday, after finishing my ~500-word review of Crystal Castles, I immediately went to rest, thinking thoughts such as: "Wow, that was the longest review I've ever written. I won't have to write another long review for a while—this one was exhausting enough!" Little did I know what the next day would bring. Somehow, I found myself writing a review even longer than that, and before I knew it, I'd created the wall of text that follows this introduction. ... read more
So… this is my first serious album review in a while.
Let’s start with something simple to get back into the flow of writing reviews.
In “brat”, Charli XCX masterfully creates an experience that has amazing sounds thrown with full volume right in front of your face while keeping some hidden complexity in the mix.
Firstly, let’s cover some highlights on the record
The Oscillating bass on “Van Dutch” adds so much to the song, not taking away from ... read more
Took a long time to get another single out, but at least it is great
Pretty similar to their previous two tracks, but with a bit more variation towards the end of the track.
I would like to see them experimenting a bit more instead of staying an average indie rock band.
This single reminds of the old arctic monkeys, when they were still good.
The instrumentation on both tracks can be quite repetitive, but still is quite complex if you listen to it carefully. Furthermore, the vocals also do not fall into too many cliches, but still are a bit bland.
Overall, the two tracks are pretty decent.
One of the only idiotic things Kendrick has ever done is not releasing this song on streaming platforms
