Being able to separate the art from the artist is a very helpful skill and something I generally don’t have any issues with. The problems come when the artist IS the art. I haven’t heard an album where I’ve felt like I personally know the artist to this extent. Mark Kozelek describes his whole mental state and blends that perfectly with childhood reminiscence. I really don’t like the dark cabaret emo aesthetic this sorta created (you know the whole scene kid theatre thing, like the first PATD album) but it’s executed so good here that I really can’t complain.
Kids See Ghosts for Freak Folk enthusiasts. Also yet another W to Four Tet for introducing AC to Vashti. Wish it was twice the length.
