Just a better version of "Dark Side of the Moon." The themes on mental struggles and lost relationships are much more clear and well defined on this album as well as the synths fitting the sound of the record much better.
This album has aged incredibly. The production is still very crisp to this day. However, I do think "Wish You Were Here" does this contemporary style a bit better.
First listen left a lot to be desired, however, the length of this record just gives more to dissect each playthrough. I really enjoy how the story unfolds in this very theatrical manner especially towards the end of the album. "The Trial", despite not being the most conventional songs, may just be the most creative track Pink Floyd has ever put out.
Bob Dylan's lyricism always will be a huge draw to his music, but the instrumentation on this record is so beautiful and filled out in comparison to his other works that make this record stand out amongst his entire catalog. I also really appreciate the poetry and imagery on the track "Desolation Row" - despite its length, it never becomes a bore.
Hit after hit on the first leg of the album, and the execution of the flow in the second half is still very satisfying. Hard to believe this came out in the 60s.
Classic. Some of the tracks are a little plain but overall a must-listen.
