Well…. This Submarine Sank
I remember people saying this album felt like its cover back when it released, and I can say why that was said but that created expectations. I find the sort behind it more interesting. The vocalist’s vocals work in English, not that much in Spanish, and the music is quite enjoyable, such as the lyrics, but it didn’t hit with me that much.
Top Tracks: Run Your Mouth, Echo, Paranoia
Well...
This cover was giving futuristic cunty electro-pop music, and it couldn't be less than that. Hopecore the album.
Top Tracks: Lost In TV
okay miss Zara, I was not familiar with your game
In a year of amazing and cunty pop music, Zara Larsson comes to put her name in the map, and she did it quite good. Tbh, for me Zara was a low tier pop star. I’ve heard her name but couldn’t think about a single hit from her, so I came here knowing nothing about her. This album is pretty cool, it has all the vibes of a summer album, some tracks are real cunty bangers, and it was nice knowing a bit more of Zara in the vulnerable side ... read more
Not what I expected from this cover
I know I’ve heard this beautiful voice before
Top Tracks: Can’t Be Sure, I Kicked a Boy, You’re Not the Only One I Know
Ugh, to be free
We love free Khalid. Would love to have this album in my teenager years. It's really lovely how Khalid really encapsulated the feeling of finally being free and being yourself in this album. Again, maybe my only concern is the length, but whatever, it is sexy, it is dancy, he's having fun so, so am I.
Top Tracks: in plain sight, whenever you're gone
Cheesy
Paul Klein is in love, and he will make sure you get that in every song of this project. Pretty much softer than what I was expecting, but I mean, the title is literally soft, son idk what was I expecting. Production wise, I do feel something different, some touches of that 80’s Phil Collin’s production, it felt fresh coming from Lany. Not their best project but one really lovely.
Top Tracks: Know You Naked, Make Me Forgett, Destiny
This being more showgirl than that certain album...
Okay, comparisons aside, JADE really did a pretty good and solid record here. My only complain would be that it has maybe too much songs, would'e chopped a couple and what a record.
Top Tracks: Fantasy, FUFN (Fuck You For Now), Before You Break My Heart
Taylor, please take your time. It is okay, your fans, we'll still be here
I took the time to write my review of this album, and while I know I’m not the first to share these thoughts, this is my honest opinion. Overall, I didn’t enjoy the album as a complete work. I evaluate music based on three criteria, in this order of importance: music, lyrics, and concept.
Music: Frankly, Taylor disappointed me here. The album was marketed as a sort of 1989 sequel, with Taylor describing ... read more
Nostalgic
Another trip to the past, fixing my dad's motorcycle with him while listening to Chicago in the background. I used to hate when he asked me to help him fix his bike, but now I understand it was his way of spending quality father-son time. About the album, I love Chicago's instrumentation; it reminds me a lot of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, a band I discovered this year. Pretty cool.
Top Tracks: 25 or 6 to 4, Beginnings, Call on Me
Well... I guess here the Swifties learned to stop asking for 300,000 songs in a single project. Waaaaay too much, and I feel that's the main negative of this 'album/deluxe'. With so many songs, the main theme and the quality of the tracks get diluted. There are some very good Taylor songs here, but I honestly think I've listened to them a maximum of 3 times in my life.
Crazy
I know Grimes, but I had never listened to a full album of hers before, and now I just regret taking so long to get into it. This album is a real gem. I'm not super into Japanese culture, anime, and those things, and they can sometimes annoy me, but with this album, it didn’t bother me at all. I really liked all that influence and it even made me appreciate it way more than I already did.
Top Tracks: Kill V. Maim, Flesh without Blood, REALiTi
Okay, hear me out, this album is definitely the most 'cringy' of Taylor’s career (counting both the original version and The Anthology). Here, she was like, 'Oh, you liked the writing on folklore and evermore? Check out what I’ve got!' and dropped some of the most over-the-top and cringey lyrics of her career, but honestly, I love it. I was one of the fools whose jaw dropped when I heard 'I’m having his baby' and then I felt like an idiot when she ... read more
Midnights for me is the project I understood the least in her discography. They sold it to me as Taylor's triumphant return to pop after her folk era and the 'failures' that were reputation and Lover, and for me, it’s got nothing of a triumphant return. I didn’t get anything from the cover to the songs, which are a bit of a mishmash of sounds that, when they work, they really work, but when they don’t, they’re forgettable. I don’t think it’s a ... read more
Honestly, I didn’t appreciate this album the first few times I listened to it, but once you understand it, it’s beautiful. It’s impossible to talk about evermore without mentioning folklore and vice versa, but I think it’s lovely because I like the idea of both albums functioning as this introspective and 'alternative' project from Taylor (even though she always ignores the ugly sister that I love). For me, everything that works in folklore is elevated here, ... read more
folklore, one of Taylor's Magnum Opuses, considered by many, for me hasn’t aged entirely well. Mainly because its vibe takes me straight back to the pandemic, and I feel like that’s what elevated it for a lot of people. It was the kind of music that perfectly matched that moment in our lives, but now that time has passed, the album feels a bit heavy. Lyrically, Taylor Swift was on fire, and this album has some of her best songs, lyrically speaking. I love the story of the love ... read more
Oh, Lover… what can I say. I have a lot of affection and appreciation for Lover because of what it meant to me when it came out, but being objective, I'll say the following. For me, it's Taylor's most confusing album because thematically, I love it. 'You're what you love,' the message with which the album closes, really encapsulates the theme of the album for me, BUT musically, here we have the lowest lows of Taylor’s career. The highs are definitely ... read more
The most controversial project of Taylor’s. I’d say the impact this project had was more because of everything that happened around it than the music itself, and that’s why I don’t hold reputation in as high regard as the rest of the Swifties. I find it funny that this album is more Lover than Lover is, but we’ll talk about Lover another day. Its sound feels the most temporary (as in the opposite of timeless) in Taylor’s discography. The sounds are so ... read more
