good
favs: hard times, rose colored boy, pool, caught in the middle, idle worship
alright, blurryface. i already knew a lot of songs from this due to being a very online child from 2015-2018 but i was going into this expecting a cringefest, but just like my caravan palace review last week, i actually enjoyed it! but there are some big drawbacks holding this album back. first, tyler’s lyricism is not that good on here. the part on lane boy where he says “i wasn’t raised in the hood, but i know a thing or two about pain or darkness” made me laugh out ... read more
ariana delivers a solid but a little underwhelming breakup album for her first record since 2020. ari’s vocals are as great as ever, but the production in my opinion can be a little up and down and the sequencing isnt the best (the transition between the club banger that is yes and to the slow start of we cant be friends is a lil jarring) the albums also not helped by a short 35 min long length, and i think this album couldve been better if it was given more time. overall, def good songs ... read more
going into this i wasnt expecting much, ive heard a few caravan palace songs before (mostly cause my sister had a huge animation meme phase a few years back) so i was expecting a cringefest, but thankfully this album was actually pretty good! really fun dancey instrumentals throughout and i actually think they do a good job combing swing with a new modern sound. the vocals are also pretty solid throughout too! sometimes when they lean too hard on the swing samples its dies down a bit but ... read more
this is the 2nd EE album i’ve listened to, the first being 2015’s get to heaven, and I absolutely loved that project, so I was excited to check this one out. do i think its as good as get to heaven, no. is is still absolutely full of synth pop bangers, absolutely! the instruments are great, and they are able to hide some complex themes into songs that would fit just fine on the radio, and i know not every one likes jonathan’s voice but i think his vocals are great throughout ... read more
an album that i knew a few songs from that ive been meaning to listen to for a long time, and now that i did it, i kinda wish i liked this more. dont get me wrong, this is a pretty good album, but i dont know if it deserves the unreal acclaim its recieved over the years. theres some really great highlights, i think sunday morning is a really cute little song, femme fatale would be better than it already is if the mix didnt sound like that (thats a thing with this album is that the production is ... read more
mgmt are back with their first album in 6 years, and its pretty good! its filled with these 80s esque ballads and while its slower than what im used to from them, i definitely enjoyed it. good vocals throughout and same can be said for the instrumental and lyrics. if you’re coming here for some oracular spectacular like synth-pop bangers you might be dissapointed but this was a pretty nice listen
favs: mother nature, nothing to declare, i wish i was joking, loss of life
ok yeah, I don’t need to relisten to this album again but this record is perfect in every single sense of the word. the jazzy instrumentals, kendricks lyricism and storytelling, the features, the poem that slowly grows throughout the course of the album, the raw emotion on u, pharell’s 4 count on alright, the sample on momma, the way the beat stops on wesley theory, it’s one of the best albums ever made, theres no other way to put it
favs: all of them but specifically wesleys ... read more
i was already familiar with this album but this is my first full listen and its a really beautiful album, from the instrumentation (especially on the opener), the guest vocals (shoutout to ceelo) and mac’s lyrics. if i had complaints for this album, i think some of the track lengths are a little too long and kinda drag the album a bit, and i HATE the outro on stay, i hate outros that are just moaning and it completely takes me out of the album. but despite that, this is still a really ... read more
holy shit. ye’s still got it.
his first album since he obliterated his own career in late 2022, and listen, i dont wanna say this album is good, i dont wanna say mr “defcon 3 on jewish people” is capable of still producing good music, but shit this is his most consistent album since ksg. incredible beat selection and production throughout, some mostly good features especially freddie gibbs’ verse on back to me, also ty$ does a great job bouncing off of ye’s bars ... read more
simz takes a break from the orchestral beats in favor for a more industrial sound inspired by… brazillian funk????? yeah its interesting, some cool ideas demonstrated here but this ep is really short and pretty half assed for the most part, hopefully she fletches this out some more for her next album
favs: mood swings, far away
i was already decently familiar with this album but i had never given it a full listen until now, and i enjoyed it! i thought the instrumentals were all really good and interesting and its pretty insane how well made and well crafted this was for a debut, and you can tell how this was an album closely made over 7 years. however, there is one very glaring issue with this project imo, and its the length. ik i have a baby tiktok attention span but this album is 74 minutes long, and as the 2nd half ... read more
this is my first time listening to a sonic youth album, and man, i just dont feel this one or get the appeal at all. i know this is more grungier than their other work but I couldnt get into it. the instrumentals can be good sometimes but after a point they really started sounding the same and it felt so boring after a while. this album has a 59 min runtime and it just drags on for so long imo. the lyrics are fine but kim gordons vocals were usually pretty annoying like on drunken butterfly. i ... read more

i am already familiar with lil darkie, i was big into him back in 2020 and my friend has had some songs from this album in his rotation, but I was not looking forward to this album considering i have grown to disdain his music since i stopped listening to him. so let me say first, the 1st half of this album is terrible. cringe edgy lyrics, horrible production, awful attempts at nu metal, with the only highlight being cold outside, and then the craziest thing happens: the album picks up a ... read more
the smile cook yet again with their 2nd album that takes them into a more post rock direction. honestly, its a little slow for my taste but i was never bored by the album or thought it sounded the same. thom’s vocals are as great as ever, jonny’s stringwork adds some incredible depth to a lot of the instrumental and tom also adds some new depth through his drumming that isn’t really found on any radiohead album. overall this is definitely an early candidate for my top 10 album ... read more
the first album from rtj is a really strong debut thats honestly kind of overlooked in their discography. great beats, great transitions, great chemistry, great features and of course el-p and mike leave way for some great lyricism. only issue with this album is that a lot of the songs kind of blend into each other which lead to there not being a lot of memorable moments but regardless i enjoyed this quite a bit, guess i gotta tap into them more
favs: banana clipper, ddfh, job well done
the only release from arctic monkeys frontman alex turner is a soundtrack ep for the film submarine and the ep takes a more folk approach then some of the more rock focused work of AM’s music. and honestly, its a pretty welcome change. its gives a more intimate and wintery feel to these songs and i think its fits the music really well. alex has some good lyrircism and a lot of times an album with pretty stripped down production might bore me but thankfully this album did the opposite and ... read more
