Hot Rats is a perfect display of Frank Zappa's musical abilities. While his singing doesn't stand out too much (at least to me), the arrangements are what really make this album so enjoyable. Every instrument, from the piano, to the drums, to the saxophone, to the violin, to the flute (pretty sure those are some of the instruments here) is used in a bizarre yet fun and addicting way. And it all still sounds fresh, even 55 years later.

But it can be. This album is actually pretty decent. I mean, for me no tracks made it into the great category, but I also didn’t find myself physically cringing at the lyrics on any of these tracks like I did on ELEVATION. Pretty easily her best album for me, although the issues I have with her other projects are sometimes still here, like the childish sound effects and the generally uncomfortable feeling on tracks like Wheels On The Bus and Teacher's Pet. However, the difference is that those moments occur far less than on Crybaby, which made this album way easier to sit through for me.
