people are really underrating this album. nothing about this is below a 40/100 minimum. the production is kinda eh but I just changed my EQ settings and it sounded perfect. this is album is ambitious, unique and just a great overall experience. I remember being surprised and loving this album. It's one of the pioneers of heavy metal and my favorite of the trio metal classics (in rock, black sabbath's debut, led zeppelin's debut)

Pay attention specifically to the chords of Mama, especially that major resolution (tony bank’s compositional style), the strange break where phil goes “aha ehh” for a while, even the unconventional introduction of the drum groove
I get not liking this album but Genesis helped pioneer/forge the 80s sound ppl love calling derivative. They were one of the first to experiment with it.
I dont like this era that much either but u cant call an album with second home by the sea derivative bro. Cant even really think of an album that sounds like this. But i get why you dont like it"

It’s just their artistic expression, if you’ve ever made music, you’d know the process is the fun. Collier has fun adding riffs and funky chords. It’s playful and inoffensive, dont try playing him into some disingenuous show off
