The album that brought Garage Rock and (arguably) Post-Punk back into the mainstream is deserving of its achievements! The raw sounds is great and really elevated it imo. Just an amazing album all around.
Favourite tracks: Is This It, Someday, Last Nite
Least favourite: Trying Your Luck
Really solid but not quite as good as High Violet. Still great though! I like that it has a bit more of a post-punky vibe with some tracks.
Favourite tracks: Fake Empire, Mistaken For Strangers, Apartment Story
Least favourite: Squalor Victoria
We're going back to the flood era by having a cover on the album. Solid but not my favourite. Nice to see The Mesopotamians back from The Else era as well!
Thanks @consyl for recommending!
A damn good debut! Sounds great and has nice guitar work through out. A solid mix of power pop and garage rock!
Ben Gibbard has such a lovely voice it makes everything sound pretty.
The first Death Cab Album I’ve listened to in full! It sounds super lush and sweet! The instrumentals are great and Ben is on point! Also the three track run of Crooked Teeth to Brothers is so damn good!
Favourite tracks: Soul Meets Body, I Will Follow You into the Dark, Crooked Teeth
Least favourite: Someday You Will Be Loved
Stone cold classic! It’s some great classic 70’s cheese that has aged brilliantly! Concerto For A Rainy Day deserves to be seen as one of the best medley of the century, right up there with the Abbey Road Medley.
Favourite tracks: Turn To Stone, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Mr Blue Sky
Least favourite: Believe Me Now
Since Weezer are touring with these guys later, I thought I should check out their second album.
Some really great jangly pop stuff! A lot of the tracks are just really pretty and nice.
Favourite tracks: So Says I, Saint Simon, Fighting In a Sack
Least favourite: Pink Bullets
Wow Illinois is beautiful and fantastic who would’ve guessed. Only one note, some of the shorter tracks didn’t need to be their own thing since they flow into the next/previous song.
Favourite tracks: Come On! Feel The Illinoise!, Chicago, The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts, The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out To Get Us!

Really solid! Some good guitar and vocal work. I feel like the mixing could be a little better but that’s only a minor gripe.
Favourite tracks: Other World, With Aura, The Cabana
Least favourite: Ankle Brace
Favourite so far! Honestly sounds like a 2000’s indie tune and I really like that.
Beck gets sad and goes full singer songwriter. Honesty sounds like it would be bad but no, it’s one of his best!
Favourite tracks: The Golden Age, Lost Cause, End of the Day
Least favourite: Side of the Road
Maybe I’m biased towards psychedelic pop but I really like this! Wasn’t that massive on their first album (only one I’d heard before this) but I really like this throwback, laid back sound they have here! I love the vibe it creates of actually being in a space hotel.
Favourite tracks: Star Treatment, Four Out Of Five, The Ultracheese
Least favourite: The World’s First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip
Some great New Wave from its weird early beginnings! It’s basically like if Oingo Boingo were from England, jittery guitar and vocals especially.
Favourite tracks: Making Plans for Nigel, Outside World, Complicated Game
Least favourite: Millions
Brilliant song but everyone knows that. Pharaohs sounds like something you’d hear on a late night shopping channel it’s damn interesting
Brendon goes solo and makes a surprisingly solid album (considering everything after this). He still has his heart in it and delivers some top notch tracks! His best stuff post Pretty Odd.
Favourite tracks: Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time, Death of a Bachelor, L.A. Devotee
Least favourite: The Good, The Bad and The Dirty
In my original review I said that this would grow on me. Damn right! Why did I think this was their weakest? It’s pop perfection in an emotional coat!
Favourite tracks: Hard Times Rose-Coloured Boy, Pool
Least favourite: No Friend (Kinda like what Hayley did recently on Power Snatch’s Assignment)
I prefer this over Wu-Tang. Sounds more like one of their classic songs.
Thanks @consyl for recommending this!
This just sounds so damn good! I'm unfamiliar with Glass Beach, but if their lead singer can make a solo album this good, then they have to be at least pretty solid. Instrumentals are incredibly energetic and the vocal performance is strong, so basically everything you'd want from this kinda music. Easily my current AOTY!
Favourite tracks: the same, kate said, you are an angel
Least favourite: look
Gorillaz are back doing experimental stuff!
I went into this mostly blind (Orange County was the exception since it played a lot on radio when it came out) and I’m glad I did! Sounds really pretty and has some great lyrics. The features are on point as per usual, and the instrumentals are great! One of their best.
Favourite tracks: Orange County, Damascus, The Sad God
Least favourite: The God Of Lying
