so nobody was going to tell me MJ Lenderman was a part of Wednesday?!?!?!????
I’ve for whatever reason put this off for far too long - I’ve liked Lenderman for a while but was yet to actually listen to a record of his in full and this scratches all of my alt-country itches. I really do love it. His vocals fit in with the earnest slacker rock / country sounds with every song feeling personal and intimate. Hell yeah.
for years now I’ve known this kid had an unnatural amount of talent, though it’s still quite unreal seeing it play out in front of me - especially considering how young he still is. ‘veering’ is mature, consistent and so intricately constructed down to every snare and every synth. domenico throws his mostly glitchy and electronic influences into a bowl alongside hip-hop beat-making expertise, a knack for great ambience and atmospherics, finished with even some touches of ... read more
Really really interesting project from Crewe of all places. A very cool blend of genres that you don’t hear coming out of Britain all too often.
“gripping my dick while I’m gripping my gun” is crazy man…
‘Blush’ is… fine? i guess? there isn’t a whole load inherently wrong with it necessarily (bar Girlfriend) - it just feels quite empty. It’s not invoking anything out of me, do i need to be from Texas? idk man. There are a few good songs, mostly quite devoid of anything Kevin Abstract unfortunately.
that trademark Wilco sound is just so soul-soothing no matter if it’s indie rock, country rock, indie folk, alternative country, pop rock or any amalgamation that lands in between the lot. Truly a timeless, and classic band, with Sky Blue Sky being another example holding up that statement. (huge shoutout to that opening 4 track run by the way)
Emo man straight up loses his mind and goes on a 57 minute poetic monologue over some hard ass post-hardcore
I love folk, and i love punk - yet folk-punk almost feels like an oxymoron. how could such a genre sound? if anyone needs the answer, point them Voilent Femmes’ way.
I was introduced to Mei when she supported Panchiko on tour - and just though her performance there it was obvious how abundantly talented she is, and why Panchiko had chosen her as their support. Her debut album ‘Animaru’ only supports that notion, it’s so pleasant, so pretty, and so very polished.
Extremely consistent, sharp, and incisive. ‘Magic, Alive!’ is McKinley Dixon levelling up.
SENTRIES drop their third record, and it certainly does not fail in its attempts to follow up on the exciting ‘Snow as a Metaphor for Death’. The bands recent effort falls more into an art punk / art rock pocket than their previous, with their older works being a barrage of noise. This sleeker sound comes off brilliantly as SENTRIES outdo their last effort that was full of promise.
Very solid EP from Alien Chicks - despite not being fully fledged and consistent, the trio once more show some promise
quite Whirr-esque, especially on the opener. this is a very well executed shoegaze EP
Clarity is a really nice emo album, some cool instrumentation, The vocals are good, the emotion is there. Despite this, only ‘Lucky Denver Mint’ really hit me and stuck with me. I’d also note it’s a tiny bit pop-y for my taste but that’s just me.
Cover of the year?
I love discovering bands making cool ass music all around the globe, weather it's Lithuanian ambient, Brazilian shoegaze or, in this instance, Norwegian punk. And Honningbarna did not dissapoint. Relentless noise and passion, in a masterfully grinding tone that pulses through you. It's intense, rough, rugged and piercing - and it makes for a real explosion of industrial punk.
Polvo have been on my radar for a little while now, i’d stumbled across ‘Solitary Set’ from one of their EP’s and today i finally settled and decided to check out this album: Today’s Active Lifestyles
First things first, i adore the tone on this. There’s something about it that’s so satisfying and scratches just the right itch in my ears. And Polvo keep it unique throughout each track while keeping that same gritty, sleazy, noisy, hardcore-ish indie ... read more
The weird, whimsical and wonderful world of Animal Collective is on full display once again on ‘Sung Tongs’ - their eccentrically odd and unique blend of folk with electronic psychedelia is a one of a kind sound that only these masters of mischief-music can pull off. Pure magic in a bottle once again
