Coming newly into ScHoolboy Q's discography, only previously having listened to the experimental and fantastic Blue Lips, I wanted to go to what people claim to be his best. I will immediately say that I do hold Blue Lips higher, but this album is still very very good. The start of this album with Torch, Lord Have Mercy, That part, and Eddie Kane with Jadakiss, is an insane run of 4 songs thats production and rapping performances emphasize Q's curation as well as his mic presence. ... read more
Tyler, The Creator comes out with an absolutely amazing project in 2024, going over some of the deepest parts of Tyler's psyche. We see very personal information being talked about on Chromakopia, causing Tyler to say in an interview that he wore a mask to get some of it out. From talking about having a kid on Hey Jane, coming out on Take Your Mask Off, and his complicated relationship with his biological father on Like Him, and so much more. This man continues to evolve his projects and ... read more
Kendrick delivers a west coast style project, which is simply unreal. From songs like wacced out murals, man at the garden, and peekaboo being a bit more braggadocious after coming off a huge diss track win with Drake, to more conceptual and emotional tracks like heart pt. 6, reincarnated, and gloria. This album has truly breathtaking production, and really the only reason it isnt even higher is due to peekaboo and gnx which I find the features and song structures to fall flat next to literally ... read more
Lupe Fiasco puts out an amazing project in 2024, going over the story of Amy Winehouse and displaying seasoned and masterful lyricism as always. It seems that only time makes him grow stronger. Fantastic production, mind-boggling bars, good flows, all are part of Samurai.
Top tracks for me: Samurai, Cake, No.1 Headband
Denzel Curry absolutely does not disappoint on this both politically charged, yet conceptually dense album. Of course, it goes over different taboos like molestation on the title track 'Taboo | Ta13oo', politics on 'Sirens | Z1renz' and many others. The further you get down taboo the better that it gets, as well as the darker. This album's soundscape is eeriily dark and staticy, making it for a catchy but unsettling listen at times. Some fantastic production on Ta13oo ... read more
Blvck Svm's debut album going off the steam he gained on his EP "mangalica mink", dives into a fine dining culinary themed album. Blvck Svm displays fantastic lyricisim, with complex wordplay, culinary references, and talks about his rise in the rap game. The jazzy beats and mostly strong features also complements Blvck Svm's performance. Svm has a very distinct style, being very quiet yet concise with his words, making one that dives into his lyrics a worthy reward.

Dark Times by Vince Staples brings out his most vulnerable side that we have really seen from him so far. Vince talks about women problems, family, and how his actions have lead him to where he is. The most deeply reflective work we have seen from Vince, but also amazing production and lyricism. Dark Times at least I believe out does almost all of his other work, even Big Fish Theory. Vince continues to dominate the 2020's and remains one of the most underrated rappers in the game.

Shadowbox, being the third studio album of MAVI's very young career, reaches new existential topics and uncertainties that lie behind the foreground of MAVI. MAVI talks about many vices in his day to day life, really opening up to us. For example, on my personal favorite from the album, "drunk prayer", he describes his relationship with alcohol. Chilling lines like, "I drink till I can't feel it, at least I think cuz I can't remember shit" as ... read more
My Injury Reserve Album that I have ever visited and I was absolutely not disappointed. By the Time I get to Phoenix really feels like a true dystopian, full of fear, lack of guidance, and just what I think I would feel during an apocalypse. The production on this album is phenomenal and is unlike any I've heard before. The delivery and lyrics are quivering, full of fear and uncertainty, all while delivering cold gripping punchlines and deep terror. On songs like SS San Francisco we have ... read more
Few Good Things by Saba is a fantastic narration and biography/autobiography that covers both his grandfather's experience in living in Chicago as well as his own self growing up. In Saba's last album, Care for Me, he covers both label issues and the passing of his cousin dinnerwithjohn, or John Walt. Saba is left in intense grieving after this, which led to me wondering what kind of album we would get after that. Few Good Things is a deeply reflective work as we see him on a song ... read more
