Day 6 / February Underground Discovery
Also my 50th Review!
First time ever dipping my feet into a Larry June project, this was surprisingly really enjoyable. Alchemist does not disappoint once again and delivers fantastic beats for June to glide over with his calm and smooth delivery / flows. June shows solid lyricism and we even see sparse Alchemist verses throughout. Features on this tracklist are in no stretch of the imagination, stacked. And all of the performances are super solid, ... read more
Del The Funky Homosapien Discography Reviews (3/10)
Del comes back with Future Development, off of his second album No Need for Alarm. And I feel that while these 3 first albums all revolve around similar soundscapes and flows/deliveries, there is a big big upgrade on this album. Del's lyricism. Tracks like Del's Nightmare going over how the record label is like slavery for new up and coming artists was a fantastic listen, as well as Love Is Worth, talking about respecting ... read more

Boldy's first ever album signed to Griselda Records, you can definitely hear the influence of the Griselda sound on this tracklist. Talks about drug talk, his past, and of course, a very expensive pair of Cartier glasses/ just a emphasis on money and designer brands. As much as I do respect the Griselda sound however, I do feel that this lacks the lyricism we get from Boldy usually, like on a Price of Tea in China. The production is very good though, ... read more
Del The Funky Homosapien Discography Reviews (2/10)
Coming off of a fantastic debut from Del, No Need For Alarm kinda feels like the same area, just a tad less focused. Great beats, fantastic flows, and to be fair to Del we see some really solid lyricism here, definitely improving. Great performances overall, just feels like it falls slightly flat to I Wish My Brother George Was Here.
Favorite Tracks: You're in Shambles, Catch a Bad One, WorldWide
Day 4 / February Underground Discovery
I will be the first to admit that I am both inexperienced and not the biggest fan of what I have heard from Roc Marciano, which take it with a grain of salt cuz its very little. That is, up until now. The Elephant Man's Bones is a great listen and one of those that feels like it will age like a fine wine. Roc delivers great creative bars, plenty of drug talk, and good lines like "Supply the homies with that rock, Jon Bon Jovi". Plenty of ... read more

When deciding to dive into Del's discography, especially not knowing much of anything about him, trust me I was shocked when I learned he was Cube's cousin, I thought of his legendary verses on Gorillaz songs I love. Something about his delivery, flow, and voice scratches an itch in brain that no other rapper really hits. Going into I Wish My Brother George Was Here, I was absolutely thrilled. This album is, to be expected, funky, ... read more
Day 3 / February Underground Discovery
Black Star has always been a integral hip hop duo in the underground rap scene, going over topics of black equality, embracing being black, as well as more political topics like government. On Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star we get all of that. This tracklist comes with fantastic tracks like Thieves in the Night, a political ballad about not accepting inequality, Respiration, amazing feature from Common, and Definition / Re: Definition. Overall, ... read more
Day 2 / February Underground Discovery
Going into another Boldy project, expecting drug talk and good beats, and this album does not disappoint. I find this album to be especially interesting due to Boldy's raw lyricism of the harshness of growing up in Detroit, and also the fantastic beats by The Alchemist. While we do not have many, the features on the tracklist are quite good, especially Vince and Benny the Butcher on their track appearances. Overall, definetly a strong album in ... read more
Day 1 / February Underground Discovery
MF DOOM put simply, "got more lyrics than a church got Ooo lords". MF DOOM and Madlib bring one of the most influential and iconic albums of all time. This is a very lyrically dense album, like one of my favorite albums of all time Undun, I find the best way to listen to this with the lyrics open. The production on this from Madlib is in short, unreal. Every track has what I would call extremely intentional thought and effort perfectly matching ... read more
ASTROWORLD brings unreal psychedelic beats and a stacked tracklist into Travis Scott's discography. From performance to performance, we see many different production types, from the amazing spacey Tame Impala production on Skeletons and the harsh yet atmospheric harmonica on Stop Trying To Be God. While the tracklist sound is not necessarily consistent, the quality mostly is. There are very few tracks that fall flatter than the others, those being NC-17, lackluster 21 feature and beat, and ... read more
Going into an absolute classic for the first time, Havoc and Prodigy deliver hard hitting bars over some of the most iconic and snappy boom bap beats. The Infamous, absolutely delivers on lyricism, coming in with fantastic story-telling tracks like Cradle to the Grave and Give up the Goods. NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE, is forgetting about Shook Ones, Pt II and ofc Survival of the Fittest. In short, this album goes fucking hard and you better listen to it.

After coming off a whole week or two of going through all of the legendary Roots catalogue, it's only right for me to listen to the 2022 near masterpiece by Black Thought and Danger Mouse. First off, the production on this album is second to none, Danger Mouse brings the most cinematic yet diverse, and completely ear-catching beats. Tracks like Because, The Darkest Part, Belize, VIOLAS AND LUPITAS, I could go on. Arguably the best produced album of 2022.
When it comes to the rapping ... read more
The second studio album from Denzel Curry, Imperial goes from amazing bangers to hard hitting conceptual topics. This is a perfect mix of an album if you like a more conceptual album from Zel (like a Ta1300 or MMESYF) or a more hard-hitting bangers like a KOTMSV2 or ZUU. This album perfectly blends these to together making it a fantastic listen. Fantastic features from this album, shoutout to Joey Bada$$ on Zenith.
Favorite Tracks: ULT, Gook, Story: No Title, Zenith
A really fun, really good tracklist of hardhitting florida style rap. Denzel leads the Florida scene to this day, and he even gives love to his home state by giving features to plenty of native rappers, (Ice Billion Berg, Sam Sneak, PlayThatBoiZay). I wanted to go back to this album since in the grand scheme of Zel's amazing discography, this was my least favorite off of initial listen. While I do appreciate this album much much more, the lack of length and material makes it stay around ... read more
1999 is a fantastic mixtape, and easily a classic. Joey Bada$$ with the help of many fantastic features, flowers to Capital Steez, delivers hard hitting bars and fantastic boom bap beats. The only thing bringing down my score of this mixtape relys on tracklist consistency. Some songs feel like their never end (the posse cut at the end), as well as some that feel lackluster compared to fantastic songs like Survival Tactics, Killuminati, Worl Domination, and Waves. Overall, a fantastic listen ... read more
The House Is Burning comes off of a 5 year hiatus from the TDE rapper Isaiah Rashad. While I do not think his style changed too much from his former album, The Sun's Tirade, I didn't really want it to. Rashad's psychedelic, laid back, atmospheric, and soothing music style always has been a strong draw for me to his music. The House is Burning carries on that sound but with more of an ode to the southern styles. Lyrically, the album isn't nearly as densely packed as his ... read more
The Roots Discography Reviews (10/10)
My last album of this lovely discography. And one of the harder ones for me to really attach a score to. The concept of this album is really fantastic and I really love the idea of it. When it comes to the lyrical side of this album, I do not think it disappoints and we do get vivid pictures of many stereotypes in the hip hop game. From characters like a crippling drug addict on "The Dark", a women crazed, money maniac on "When the People ... read more

The Roots Discography Reviews (8/10)
Close to the end of The Roots discography, we are here with an absolute gem of a project. This project shows Black Thought's, and many fantastic features getting very existential, and also very aware of their flaws. We have tracks like God 2.0, that displays Trotters questioning faith in God, and asking for guidance and answers. Radio Daze focuses on an underlying theme that gets brought up a lot in this track list, that being the gradual increase of ... read more

Rising Down, while is a step down from Game Theory, I still find quite enjoyable. I do feel that this track list is probably the most inconsistent out of all the albums I've listened to so far. There are a lot of tracks that do feel aimless and just a bit too similar too each other. It's hard to say much about this album, especially since it feels a bit all over. Not bad, but definitely not one of their bests.
