A brand new album from New Jersey native rapper MIKE, Showbiz!. I am not too too experienced when it comes to MIKE, my first ever hearing of him being from last year on his collab album with producer Tony Seltzer, Pinball. While Pinball was much more trap based especially in the beats, Showbiz! feels like a much more relaxed, calm listen, almost giving vibes of like a House is Burning from Isaiah Rashad. MIKE's performances are solid, the beats are solid, it is just nothing too crazy or ... read more
I simply cannot wait to dig a hole after this one. I got it, and by it, lets just say, my pickaxe and shovel and armor.
Del The Funky Homosapien Discography Reviews (6/10)
Del the Funky Homosapien and Parallel Thought production is, to be all honest, not that funky. These beats, while it is nice to see Del switch it up a bit, really feel far from home for him, and his performances show. It is not a bad listen, but it is disappointing going farther into modern day Del's discog.
Day 12 / February Underground Discovery
The Money Store, being an absolutely iconic experimental hip hop project, while not necessarily being underground, still absolutely deserves a listen. This album takes experimental works to a whole new level. Having listened to many experimental stars in the scene, such as a JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, and Injury Reserve, I was expecting around the same sound as I was sure that they took at least some influence from this very album. While I do hear it, this ... read more
Day 11 / February Underground Discovery
While this may be renowned as an underground classic, and my first ever listen to Atmosphere, I really did not enjoy it. It is not a bad album, it is just the problem of all the songs kind of blend together. Slug's flow feels quite repetitive, even when Ant makes a distinct beat. Some songs are for sure quality, but It is definitely not for me.
Day 10 / February Underground Discovery
To true hip hop heads, Aesop might not necessarily be underground, but even he does admit on Labor Days that labels have pushed shitty rappers above him, leaving him behind to make "underground music". This is my first listen ever to Aesop, and I am extremely impressed. While I was aware of his lyricism and skill, I wasn't THAT aware. This guy might be the best lyricist of all time, maybe only behind or on the same level as a Lupe Fiasco. ... read more
This is a really short, yet really good EP by Atlanta native Kenny Mason. Kenny goes into some experimenting on this album such on Back Home (which is on disc 2 on this album, which unfortunately does not show on the website) as well as Dracula. Kenny does a great job with consistency here, and with quality control. Definetly a good quick listen, he is a very talented MC who will do some damage in the 2020's for sure.
Favorite Tracks: STACK IT UP, DRACULA, BACK HOME
The music on this album is alright, Lithonia is fantastic obviously, but so many genres and so little refinement to the tracklist makes it for a really rocky and all over the place listen as an album experience. While it is hard to give a score to a movie soundtrack album as this is somewhat that, it is hard for me to really leave this middle ground as the overall album experience just isn't really there.
This is my first time actually diving into anything Pink Siifu, didn't really know what to expect. BLACK'!ANTIQUE hits a lot of different styles, but is really long which is kinda my main complaint for the album. I don't want to go there yet, let me give him some flowers first. I think it is a very cool album, the sound is very unique, especially in the first 5 or so songs that are super aggressive and jarring, very abstract. Songs like the title track really bring some great ... read more
Super dope crossover and single, Aesop and Del compliment each other super well.
Saba, coming off of his debut success Bucket List Project, delivers a raw, full of emotion LP Care for Me. This album dives into the effects of the loss of his cousin Walter, or as most knew him, dinnerwithjohn. We see violent imagery and chilling lyricism on songs like Sirens, saying "Sirens on the way, now your lying where the angels lay". We also see just the state of Saba, many line show how insecure and how broken he feels after the death. The expression of art by Saba on Care ... read more
Del The Funky Homosapien Discography Reviews (5/10)
Del the Funky Homosapien, Dan The Automator, and Kid Koala come together to make Deltron 3030. This album is like Sci-Fi and hip hop combined to make an amazing album. The beats and flows are insane, and the pairing is so strong together. Super strong tracks like Things you Can Do, 3030, and Virus all make up a super enjoyable tracklist. Super recommend.
Day 9 / February Underground Discovery
I would like to start this review, which might be lengthy as this album goes into a lot topically, by saying rest in peace to the Brownsville legend. Ka was hugely influential to the New York Underground, and his sound is the most unique I have heard in forever. This is not my first album I have listened to by Ka, but what an amazing album this was.
Diving into Honor Killed the Samurai, the concept of the album is clear. The horrid conditions and ... read more
Life is Beautiful, a collab album combining the trap legend 2 Chainz, and the more mellow Larry June, with one of the best producers of all time, The Alchemist, brings on chill relaxed sounds with solid potential. It is hard to say much about it, as this album isn't very earcatching or very interesting to say the least. They do their thing, Alc brings good beats, and they spit some bars over it. It's alright, it's just nothing crazy.
Day 8 / February Underground Discovery
Going into my first jev. project, I did not know what to expect, as I have never really heard of the guy. Apparently he was on TikTok which I wanted to make sure I didn't lower my expectations, as we have all heard the garbage on that app. But in my suprise, jev. really does bring a solid project, with a lot of enjoyable tracks. Many deep cuts like WIPE MY TEARS, and the chilling THE KILLER SHEWOLF really make this project feel more well rounded and ... read more
Bro really dragged us in with the first 2 songs and then proceeded to make some of the worst tracks from 2024. Screw giving an actual review. This shit ass don't bother. Conceited is alright.
A project that went very overlooked over 2024, mostly because Quadry is still quite underground and yet to really breakout, this album is actually quite impressive. You can see and hear the effort put into this, whether just through the album experience or the album compilation video. Quadry delivers some solid performances on different flows and some political topics lyrically. I do personally think that Quadry is a rising talent that should definitely be kept eyes on. Overall, the album is ... read more
Day 7 / February Underground Discovery
Going into an underground classic like Below the Heavens, with the high caliber MC Blu, with the assist of seasoned veteran producer Exile, a lot is to be expected. Well, this album is kinda what made those expectations so high. Easy to tell why, with one of the most underrated producer / rapper duo of all time. Exile brings these jazzy, soulful beats that Blu flows on with ease, laying down rhymes strongly. When it comes to concepts and topics on Below ... read more
RECOMMENDED FROM MY DAD #1
Going into Guru's solo catalogue here for the first time, I was quite skeptical. I did not know that Guru, second half of the prestigious hip hop duo Gang Starr, went into a jazz rap track after going solo from DJ Premier. Let me just say immediately, this was really really good. I am not very experienced with jazz rap, but the production and instrumentals behind this is amazing. While Guru isn't necessarily the most lyrical on the project, he does a great ... read more
Del The Funky Homosapien Discography Reviews (4/10)
The fourth studio album by Del, Both Sides of the Brain, expands on Del's past works and greatly improves on lyricism and conceptual introspective topics. Del brings up how his side of the brain can be overrun with common vices like weed, alcohol, and even has a frightening internal monologue to go drunk driving, and in the same track, foreshadows himself dying due to his addiction. Shockingly, Del does all of this in his classic funky ... read more
