Dua Lipa - a catchy debut
With his debut album Dua Lipa shows her amazing voice to the world with a simple but catchy record.
The LP is nothing crazy, just a bunch of summer vibe pop songs. However this doesn't make it a bad project.
Obviously the high moments are not super high but, in my opinion, there aren't many lows neither.
The highlights, Be the One, Blow Your Mind (Mwah) and New Rules shine among the rest also thanks to a better overall production.
Dua Lipa is a project ... read more
Civilisation II - a short temporal journey
Civilisation II is the only project I have listened from Kero Kero Bonito as of right now.
The short ep is divided into three section, one for each song, those being the past, the present and the future.
The past is represented by The Princess and the Clock, a song about escapism.
It's story is about a kidnapped protagonist being trapped in a chamber that dreams to escape but will eventually disappear.
Track 2 is the present, reflecting about ... read more
Stargazing - a bunch of repetitive radio songs
With his 4 songs EP, the Norwegian producer Kygo fails to deliver a memorable and layered project.
Almost every song on the record has such basic productions and many of them are similiar to each other.
While certainly gaining the success of the radios thanks to well known names as features, Kygo doesn't evolve and keeps doing the same kind of songs over and over.
This Town is the only one to seem at least different from the rest and ... read more
Good Faith - the rise of Madeon
With his second full length LP, the French producer Madeon has so much to offer and improves a lot since his first record.
One of the biggest differences from his debut is for sure the consistency of Good Faith that, with only a 35 minutes span, keeps the listener entartained in every single moment.
Also what really stands out here is the amazing and carefully crafted production with spectacular drums sounds and fills.
Madeon couldn't forget to bring ... read more
SCARING THEHOES: DLC PACK - keeping scaring the hoes
After shocking the underground rap community with their full length album SCARING THE HOES, JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown decided to drop a short EP containing tracks that didn't make it to the final cut.
The main aim of this small project remains the same as the original one: having sounds that are too weird and incovenient for mainstream music. Of course they succeded but the quality of these four songs, while still being carefully ... read more
SCARING THE HOES - a somehow chaotic order
When you take two of the most critically acclaimed and loved by the community underground rappers and put them together on a joint album you know you are going to get some heat.
This is how JPEGMAFIA and a Danny Brown in his 40s managed to create one of the funnier and more chaotic records of the 20s by far.
The 14-tracks and 36 minutes album is filled with an out of this world production with a creative and unique taste and use for samples, which ... read more
AVĪCI (01) - What Tim left us with
Tim, better known as Avicii, died on 20th April 2018 and AVĪCI was the last thing officially released from him.
This EP feels more as a compilation, considering the fact that is not very cohesive and doesn't have a main theme.
With this project there aren't big innovations from Tim but it's still a pleasant listen.
However what really stands out is one track, one of the greatest Avicii has ever done: Without You. His premature death also ... read more
Virtual Self - The technic-Utopia is awakening
During his long hiatus between Worlds and Nurture, Porter decided to enrich his discography through a new alias: Virtual Self
As of right now, we have only six tracks under this name, five belonging to this EP.
The sounds and atmosphere are obviously different from what came out under his "main artist name" giving a fresh new vibe, while still feeling a Porter record.
Five songs, almost no lirycs.
Result: an insane trance ... read more
KIDS SEE GHOSTS - a journey into Kanye's and Cudi's minds
one week after realeasing Ye, Kanye and Cudi drop their collab album.
While some themes, especially mental health, may be similiar to Ye, what really stands out here is the amazing experimental production. Even from the album opener, Feel The Love, the listener is brought to this world that the two wanted to create with its unique sounds.
The album structure is also really solid and way more consistent than Ye's. ... read more
ye - a journey into Kanye's mind
Kanye's 8th solo studio album, despite his length of 7 songs, has so much to offer.
The themes of the record float between mental health and addiction, as well as his love for his family.
I find the first 5 songs run to be pretty incostinent and doesn't reach the super highs, which are avhieved by the closer tracks.
So, for convenience, I'll talk about "first section" and "second section".
In the first section there are ... read more
Brat - the most talked about and divise album of 2024
As we all know this album has been a huge mediatic success. I remember listening to it when it was released, without knowing anything about Charli (except for the feature on I Love It)
This album is packed with short club songs that are also emotional in their own way. The quality of the songs goes from good to great, with a particolar attention to the production, making it a consistent record. However this album never reaches ... read more
I remember being hyped for this since March 1st with that snippet and waiting 20 days for an official release.
It was worth it. Such an amazing song from Porter and a valid contender for best song of the year
Graduation - a perfect album to start listening to rap music
I remember being in Sardinia and discovering this record. At the time I wasn't really familiar with the rap genre but this blew me away.
Graduation is filled with joyful sounds, mixing electronic music with pop rap.
The album overall flow is also really good but not perfect. There are tracks that I think stop the album from being something more than just a great album. Some examples are found in the middle section of the ... read more
Worlds - a 2010s electronic music masterpiece
After 2 years after the mediocre Spitfire EP, Porter Robinson came up with a record that shocked the EDM scene back in the days.
I'd like to start introducing how I discovered this project.
Around this time 4 years ago I watched a video on youtube called "The top 15 EDM albums of 2010s" or something like that. At the time I was a huge Avicii fan, having True as my favourite album of all time. I remember seeing that album sitting at ... read more
Spitfire - a misleading start, but a needed one
(This review only considers the porter's tracks, so I won't talk about the remixes)
Spitfire is the first EP and project made by one of the most acclaimed electronic artists of our time.
At the time Porter wasn't really know, outside of the single Say My Name, but Spitfire became the first release of OWSLA, a label made by Skrillex.
The record contains some of Porter's worst and least memorable material. It's still not ... read more
After 9 years Jamie xx comes up with his sophomore record, In Waves, and the electronic music producer managed to keep the same level of quality of his debut (though I prefer In Colour to this by a little).
The album flows so well and has lot of variety throughout and I don't see any unnecesary or bad songs.
It's just a great vibe and I recommend anyone to listen to this, even if it doesn't have an user must hear.
Even if there isn't a large amount of great electronic music ... read more
Madeon's debut is a fun electropop record full of bright and joyful sounds. It' a solid record front to back with 0 skips. Production wise I have not much to say besides the fact that it's obviously great and also the voice performances are always done right, especially when it's Madeon himself to sing. No surprises that my favourite songs on the record, Beings and Home, are sang by him.
I also just discovered that Charli xcx is one of the additional voices in OK, thanks ... read more
In Colour is not your usual electronic music album experience.
With this record, full of interesting ideas and colourful sounds, Jamie xx came out with this calming yet dancing atmosphere.
Also it is a bold choice for him to leave half of the album without lyrics but in my opinion it worked perfectly fine and it also create contrast with the other songs that are not just instrumentals.
The Young Thug feature track, as many already said, is a little bit out of place but it's still a good ... read more
One of the greatest songs Porter Robinson has ever made.
The progression of the whole song is on another level and the message, especially in the bridge, is told in such a simple way but it is so powerful and effective.
This man never disappoints
Besides the fact that Ninjago is easily one of the best written and engaging TV series ever (yeah not only cartoon) and such an important piece of media for me that I could write an entire paragraph just about it, it has possibly the greatest opening song I've ever heard. The energy and the feels that this opening gives you are unmatched, yeah maybe it's just nostalgia, but it is an awesome song nonetheless.
Crazy to think that I used to bump this song when I was 6 and I still do it ... read more
