My favourite EP release from Burial so far. The production, intricacy and attention to detail will blow your mind.. just like previous Burial releases. This features some of the most hopeful and upbeat sounds I've ever heard this guy produce. Especially the final track "Come Down to Us". Overall a must listen for any Burial fans and fans of this genre of music.
Kanye is definitely shooting for something different with this release. He is on record in saying that he doesn't want to be on the radio any more. He's accomplished that in a major way with his previous albums.
I think he's making this music for himself, because he can and because he wants to. Overall it's a release that mainstream listeners are just not ready for.
This album is abrasive as hell and the sounds on this thing are textured and well produced. Definitely grew on me over ... read more
Initially this album didn't impress me. That being said this album is a MUST listen. It really creeps up on you after a few listens and is packed with lush vocals and great instrumentation. The tracks on here are so gorgeously executed. It feels like a classic album from another era. It is definitely the definition of a grower and I'm so glad I returned to it!
Another solid set of tracks from Wild Nothing. I just love the sound that they're going for on this EP. Very different from Nocturne, more dance-driven tracks, which they absolutely nail.
Great set of electronic pop tracks. Seriously catchy stuff that lodges itself in your brain for DAYS! A bit too sugary for me to fall completely in love with this album. Mayberry's vocals aren't as powerful as they need to be and are often drowned in all of the synth goodness.
Ambitious. Stunningly produced. Gorgeously arranged. I am in awe with this album and is my definitely my favourite release from Arcade Fire. It really is firing on all cylinders. It's one of those albums that can be enjoyed on first listen but you can also have it on repeat and pick up on the small details that Arcade Fire have created. It's Arcade Fire at their most fun, their most groovy and their most ambitious. Pure mastery.
Some light, fun, easy going garage rock tracks. Easily the weakest No Age release yet. There's just a serious lack of energy and "anger" compared to previous releases (releases that I loved for those exact reasons). It's a fun listen but I think hardcore No Age fans will be slightly disappointed by the direction these guys took.
One of the better folk albums released this year. Vernon's vocals are as great and as emotive as ever on this thing. Overall just a great experience from start to finish. Most of the tracks on this album are anthemic and have an epic feel to them.
Solid release from Jon Hopkins. Loving the textured sounds and driving beats on this thing. Also some moments of pure beauty shine like the fifth track "Abandon Window". Definitely an album I'll be returning to for some time.
Enjoyable album but the weakest release Washed Out has put out so far. Some of these tracks just go in one ear and out the other for me. Still some great summer jams on here including "It All Feels Right" and "All I Know".
Great collaboration from El and Killer Mike. This thing has unique and hard beats, fantastic flow and fun subject matters. Some hilarious moments on this thing. Best hip-hop album of the year so far. Favorite tracks include Run the Jewels, DDFH and Get It.
Another catchy, energetic release from Wavves. I'm a total sucker for this style. While not as strong as King of the Beach, this album is a must listen. I enjoy the fun, summer, poppier feel of KOTB but it's nice to see Wavves take a chance with this grungier, darker style.
Somewhat of a classic. A fantastic set of tracks that are beautifully composed. An album that feels perfectly paced and totally justifies its length. Vile has outdone himself.
A very enjoyable debut album from the duo. Some great tracks on here, some that I'd rank in my favorites of the year. Overall though there was a few tracks here that are just okay and that didn't blow my mind. The album feels long to me and if it had less tracks I feel it would be a tighter experience.
Another extremely solid album from Deerhunter. While it does not reach the heights of Halcyon Digest it's still a really enjoyable, straight up garage rock album from the band. So many memorable hooks that will be stuck in your head all summer. Fantastic listen and one of my favorites this year.
Some great grooves on this debut album. Really impressed with some of the beats and guest vocals on this thing. Definitely one of the better electronic/dance albums released this year. Very memorable.
Overall a really solid album that had too much hype behind it. Loved some of these tracks including Fragments of Time and, of course, Doin' It Right. However, there were some tracks on here that I didn't care for. The narration on Giorgio by Moroder was unnecessary. Within is slow and boring. Nothing offended me on this album though.
Update:
Been really digging this thing lately, I've come to appreciate Giorgio by Moroder for it's driving instrumental. Within is a slow but rather beautiful ... read more
Like all National records, you'll enjoy this thing more on the 5th than you will the 1st. Each song slowly reveals itself as more and more detail is noticed on repeat listens. Stunning set of tracks.
While not as strong as Contra, this is a hell of an album. It took a while to grow on me, it's been on heavy rotation the past few days and I realize the brilliance now.
Some tracks took a while to grow on me including Finger Back and Worship You, both of which were back to back. Some stand out moments on here including Step, Hanna Hunt and Ya Hey which are some of the strongest tracks VW have every put together.
The lyrics are stunning, interesting and very uniquely Vampire Weekend.
