Lil Darkie - entropy

A perfectly fine indie pop song from Darkie. Nothing amazing but I like this sludgy enchanting instrumental with some impassioned emo vocal delivery. Lyrics are straightforward but effective within the context of the song. Good shit!

My Chemical Romance - Helena
100

The greatest pop punk song ever written and it’s not even close. Helena is a Goliath of a track that has multiple different high points. The vocals are terrific, the instrumental is loud and undeniable with its staple pop punk energy, but has a fantastically heavy chorus. There will never be another Gerard. It’s almost unfair how talented he is as a singer and overall performer. There’s not a single second I don’t believe in the intense feelings of his emotional ... read more

Tones And I - Dance Monkey

A genuinely baffling creation. Like why are you singing like that? I know she has an accent but this is some of the worst vocals I’ve ever heard on a pop song. I understand novelty but this is goofy as fuck

Steve Lacy - the feeling

So we are causally releasing the best song of the year I see?

Olivia Rodrigo - the cure
100

This is some of the best pop ear candy I think I’ve heard this generation. Also one of the most vulnerable songs she’s written. She cooked, served, and ate. Full course meal

DevilDriver - Dig Your Own Grave

Solid I but I feel like Knocked loose is doing this kind of thing a bit better rn.

David Kushner - Daylight

The chorus and overall solid vocal performance saves this from being a one dimensional imagine dragons rip off

The Garden - 5 Mile Ponytail

My two favorite white guys deliver another chronically online banger

8.5/10

Olivia Rodrigo - drop dead

Slay for sure.

Benson Boone - Beautiful Things

Chorus saves it ngl. Tad bit overhated

Adin Boyer - Predicament

This is absolutely fire and captures the experience of autism incredibly well. Flawless

Oliver Tree - Love You Madly Hate You Badly
74

Be prepared for this to take a hit when fantano inevitably gives it a 2/10 /:

Regardless, I feel like Oliver’s new album actually is a huge step up in quality from his last project. It’s just fun guilty pleasure ear candy that doesn’t over stay its welcome. This album is more akin to UIB for sure. “Death ray” feels like Oliver finally getting more ambitious with his hook game and delivering a catchy banger. I love the outro as well. “Superhero” ... read more

Kirin J Callinan - Young Drunk Driver

I love the lyrical content in this so much. The instrumental is also bright and glittery and packs a great punch. His best song no lie

10/10

Oliver Tree - All You Ever Wanted
78

Way too short, but it’s genuinely one of the better singles in rotation so far. Seems like he’s genuinely making a piviot back into more of his older work and it seems to be yielding results. The breakbeat elements are decent but I think the true magic comes from the synth work which contrasts well with more of the abrasive electronic passages. A decently constructed song by Oliver

7.8/10

Weezer - Shine Again
90

Holy shit what a comeback. Shine Again is one of the best songs Weezer has released in years. It’s proof of their staying power and ability to nail killer hooks. Is the April fools joke that Weezer released a great song? Lmao

9/10

Oliver Tree - Deep End

Bro Wtf?? He actually came through with a legit great song?? Oliver glow up?? Please be true

8.5/10

Dorian Electra - Feel Good Inc.

Fun, but lacking in unique qualities or personality on the writing side. It’s not a bad idea, but it’s not executed well enough for me to be totally invested.

5/10

Jack Harlow - Monica
10

Jack Harlow R&B album? The lyrical content is so corny right off the bat with the song “Trade Places”. This is so lazy it’s actually infuriating. Instrumental isn’t bad, its just that Jack does nothing unique with it at all. His voice isn’t terrible, it’s just not interesting when you bring no personality to the mic. Also what is this trend with bad album covers these days? Looks like his friend took this shitty picture on their iPhone while Jack was ... read more

James Blake - Trying Times
75

This album has a formulaic chamber pop sound, but is able to sound incredibly unique and groundbreaking usually how a James Blake album operates. The percussion hits are so crisp and blend well with the echoey synths and choir vocal arrangements. Slightly reminds me of the caretaker but more commercial and linear. The outro of “I had a dream she took my hand” is absolutely gorgeous. His voice melts like butter in theses mixes…. Like oh my god. “Trying times” is ... read more
