I don't quite get the appeal of this... but sure. Not a bad collection of music, but for me, his voice is Hammill's greatest weapon
I didn’t find the music terribly interesting, but it’s by no means bad. Quite good pop, but I don’t think any tracks stood out very much to me.
I suppose the fat furry fetish art is part of the artistic expression, which I must respect... I don’t think I’ll ever play this in a place where someone could be at risk of seeing my screen though (not that I think I’ll ever play it again anyway). It was the only reason I listened to the album in the first place, so ... read more
I wouldn't recommend this to someone as a first Hammill album, being a relatively weak representation of his style. I think the only real standout here is Amnesiac, which is a really good song.
A better time (acapella) is a combination of quite nice lyrics (as in not depressing) and quite nice acapella. Sometimes cool sounding.
Amnesiac is a heavy, heavy hitter. The lyrics are absolutely terrifying, though only very subtly so.
Confusion, displacement. The speaker is hiding the depths of ... read more
I don't like the singing much, which was the fist thing that struck me with this album, however, beyond that it is a completely fine album.
If only this included Patience... but alas. This is a great deal of very good music.
Track one is worth listening to if you’re bored, but it won’t cure your boredom.
The three last tracks are some of Hammill's hardest hitting ever, especially Gone Ahead, which feels incredibly personal.
Track one has some poor pronunciation... like it wasn't rehearsed enough. Not a very good track.
The rest of the album is almost too awesome!!!!
I don't think it's AS terrible as the masses say it is, but it's surely no Animals
It's not eh, exceptionally bad, but nothing here is impressive. There are some parts that are so horrible that I can't exactly give it a 50 either I feel.
It's good prog.... ... ... .. ... Nothing very special about it in my opinion.
What am i gonna say, only one person will ever see this review... it's good!
I have praised Peter's songwriting before, but this is not a fantastic example.
The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome is simpler in composition than earlier offerings, but every song is a little microcosm in itself, each seemingly about a different aspect of the human experience. The lyrics are mostly condensed and mature, at least more than before.
It's much less dramatic (well mostly) than the previous offerings, which works to an advantage given the structure of the songs. No longer are we taken through doomed sci-fi worlds or terrible seas, we're smack dab in the ... read more
I don't think any of these songs needed to be rerecorded in this way and I believe that these reworks have generally been for the worse. I think Again is probably the worst offender; what was a beautiful track on In Camera is here an overproduced shadow. This Side of the Looking Glass is presented with such a strange tone of voice that to me looses the feeling that the original and especially the bonus track on Over had. It was always a corny song, but at least it felt honest about it. If ... read more
