A last year's favourite. I had never heard of Porter Robinson before the release of this album, so I came to this with no expectations whatsoever and was pleasantly surprised by what I discovered. This one feels like a hug. The soft and sweet vocal performances keep me warm in those cold autumn/winter days, so grab a hot cocoa, cover yourself with a nice fluffy blanket and drop the needle. Time to relax and watch the leaves fall 💛

I can still recall watching Portishead live in my teens and being blown away by the vocal performance and the moody ambience. During those times, I had Dummy practically on repeat everyday. To be frank, I still listen to it quite a lot and it is always an absolute pleasure. The deeply personal lyrics, the hip-hop and jazz influenced melodies and the scratching throughout the record all come together to create a unique experience. This one hits hard. Brutal, honest lyrics delivered in the most visceral way. Capitalism, consumerism, that profound loneliness one can only feel in a city full of people and the claustrophobic feeling of being unable to escape it all. The hopelessness in having to live confined between "the top of the ocean and the bottom of the sky". I love its bleakness and just the overall sorrow permeating the album.
