After eight years of waiting, "Don't Be Dumb" sounds like a compilation of tracks from different eras, thrown together at the last minute. At first it was called "ALL SMILES" and promised to be psychedelic, then it changed its name, six singles were dropped from the tracklist, the promo campaign was restarted three times, and now I don't understand what kind of album I have in front of me.
I see that this album does the same thing as "Testing", but ... read more
This album opened up to me in a new way after the release of "Don't Be Dumb," and I began to appreciate it much more. Upon listening to it again, it seemed much more interesting to me than when I first heard it.
What surprises me most is that the simplest and most radio-friendly track, produced solely by Skepta, was the most appreciated track from an album that is positioned as experimental.
However, this album does have moments that really grab you. It's impressive how ... read more
"Diamond Eyes" is my favorite Deftones album and one of my favorite albums in general.
This album doesn't try to impress you. It doesn't show off its originality or overwhelm you with experimentation, it doesn't shout about how bold or innovative it is. It's simply the best Deftones, sounding like Deftones, the band taking their formula and perfecting it. You recognize everything, but it's all put together incredibly well.

For example, I discovered Joy Division, whose song "Atrocity Exhibition" most likely inspired the album's title, since Danny himself said that he was a fan of this song and that he related to the idea of a "freak ... read more
For me, "Heaven or Las Vegas" isn’t about trying to pick out any particular meanings, but about letting the music pour into you and dissolving in it, just letting it flow through you and not worrying about anything else.
At first, this album felt way too "sweet" to me, as if everything was too sugary. But it really opens up when you just want to say "fuck it" to everything, only you do it not in anger, but in a soft kind of self-disconnection that still ... read more
I put off listening to this album for a long time. It's one of those albums that everyone mentions when they talk about progressive rock. So I always thought, "Well, someday I'll listen to it." But when I listened to it, I didn't get that instant feeling of "a classic, perfect album." Instead, it seemed to me that the further I got into the album, the worse it got. I immediately liked the song "21st Century Schizoid Man," but the more I listened to ... read more
