Obscura - Diluvium

Ehh, not sure how I feel about this yet, but I'll just give my first thoughts. So.. the singles are amazing, the rest of the album is pretty forgettable, as it sounds all the same, except for few tracks. The clean-ish vocals are really a nice touch to a death metal record (unpopular opinion), the acoustic parts are great, the riffs are great, and holy shit the bass tone is amazing. The solos are pretty forgettable as they all sound the same and they sound so forced and like they are there just ... read more

Interesting idea, concept, overall this could really be a 10/10 material, but it falls short on variety. I have to give them credit for originality of blending these genres together.
I love how this just sounds like two long songs, the transitions from one song to another are absolutely awesome, and you probably wouldn't even notice that you are listening to another song, because they just go so well together. The screams add a lot to the songs, even though I'm not feeling that good about the ... read more

AOTY TIME

So, first of all, I absolutely adore how the vocals are buried in the mix, it is kinda contradictory since the main focus of the band are the lyrics, but I just love it. The instrumentation is really complex at times but also can get really simple, depending on what is the subject matter of the lyrics at the moment. The lyrics are absolutely fantastic, I love his writing style so much! The song structures are unique and something different, so, pretty good. Okay, but what stands out ... read more

Wow. I'm impressed. Dylan's vocals are the most agressive they've ever been. The drumming is as usual with this band absolutely incredibly energetic and fast. The fast punk rock riffs are pretty cool and incomparable to the guitar work their on other records. The way this record flows is immersive, its track placement is really top notch, "Dissolution" is one of their best songs ever imo, it just works so well because of how well it is placed in the album; after the very agressive ... read more

It Looks Sad. - Sky Lake

Interesting blending of dream pop and emo. Really unique stuff. The autotune in some songs sounds kinda cheesy. The instrumentation is really just your usual dream pop record with some elements of midwest emo in there, like the twinkling guitar etc. The vocals are beautiful, even though his singing isn't the best, I just find the tone of his voice to be incredibly fitting for these genres. Overall this is an interesting idea, but I don't feel like this is the sound they should stick to, maybe ... read more

Kriegsmaschine - Apocalypticists

It's a cool collection of riffs, intense drumming and monstrous vocals, but it just doesn't feel really all that cohesive. Which makes this record sound kinda bland and dull. I do really like a lot of these songs and pretty much just everything, I don't think there's something wrong with these songs and riffs etc. I just think that it doesn't go well together. (mainly talking about the first few tracks here, it really picks up in the second half)

The main highlight is for sure the drumming, ... read more

My main issue with soundtracks is that they don't really work outside of the context of the movie. Well, not with this one. This could work absolutely well as a standalone album.

The diversity of this record is incredible, it ranges from beautiful to absolutely horrifying. I love how you just don't know what to expect from the record by the end of it, you just end up confused, by how all these ideas from totally different musical styles could work together.

The atmosphere of this record is ... read more

An amazing record based around the death of their guitarist Tom Searle (R.I.P)

I was afraid that they wouldn't recover from Tom's death, that he was the strongest writer in the band. I was very much wrong. Some of these riffs are honestly the best they've ever wrote, same thing with the lyrics. I would call this record their most djent influenced one out of the recent three. Which is a good thing, since they do that sound very well. The electronic components in some songs are kinda glitch ... read more

Damn, I wasn't expecting that TAIM would ever top "Hate", but this is really an amazing deathcore record, it has everything you'd want from a deathcore album and even more, the tech death influence is amazing, and holy shit the drumming, the production is so great, the instruments sound is really good and CJ sounds better than ever imo.

Overall, I love this record more than I was expecting I would after "Holy War" that was such a disappointment.

The Temperance Movement - A Deeper Cut

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, because most attempts at bringing back the oldschool blues rock sound fail, so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the first track "Caught in the Middle" I was really blown away how amazing their sound is, even tho it isn't the most innovative and original sound. But as the album went on there were some weaker tracks, well, I wouldn't really call them weaker, because they mostly sound the same, half of them gives off a hard rock vibe and the ... read more

What can I say, that hasn't already been said ? This is a perfect album, there are no weak points, no flaws, this is just an example of how a perfect album should look like. Every song is a journey and will never bore you. Every song is something unique and interesting. The vocals are astonishing, the theme of the album is so interesting and the fantastic songwriting just complements it really well, the guitar work as usual is amazing, Gilmour really shines on this one. The solos in ... read more

Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!

This was the first album I heard by this band, and I think that this is one of the best indie rock records in recent time. Amazing songwriting, killer basslines and the production is super tight. I also love the versatility of the vocalist, how he can go from singing a super slow and chill song to something so energetic and fast. I haven't heard an album with political lyric themes that didn't sound cheesy and just in general cringe, but this is a different story, the lyrics are actually ... read more

Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar

This is the definitive Marilyn Manson album. An amazing concept album that showcase a transformation of a person through three different stages. Definitely not the most accessible record by them, but it sure does its best at impressing you. The production by Reznor is amazing, easily the best produced MM record, the riffs complement the story so well, just listen to "Antichrist Superstar" or "Angel With The Scabbed Wings", the riffs are just amazing. The songwriting is ... read more

It's really hard to compare Marilyn Manson records, because if you take Mechanical Animals and try to compare it to it's predecessor (Antichrist Superstar) well, you just can't. The sound is really different, the guitar playing is so much more impressive, John 5 was easily the band's best guitarist. The lyrics have a great theme, it is written from a perspective of a character called Omega, whom is an alien that's turned into a product of media, that's why there are songs like "I Don't ... read more

Looks like they finally got out of the genericcore phase. I don't get the hate for this album at all, it's actually not that bad, it's just a hit or miss. There are a few songs that I think are amazing, but there are also some songs that I think are absolute trash, so that makes this album pretty hard to rate, because it's just so inconsistent. Seems like they perfectly balanced the screaming and clean vocals, at least for the style that they are going for now. There are also a few songs that ... read more

I did expect just some generic indie rock. Oh damn, I was so wrong. This is just so ear pleasing, I love how they write lyrics that just sound so good when they are sang with his amazing moody voice. The instrumentation fits his voice just so damn well, even though I would really just appreciate more variety in it, I would be so happy if there were more songs like the second half of "Kopter". I just like the more chaotic sound of shoegaze than the moody and sad one. This is also one ... read more
