Building up so beautifully in the first half. Hearing the creschendo of strings just as I see the first sun of spring shine across the morning waters of my city while hitting a a fat blow on my vape felt pretty magical.
The second half did loose me a bit, but it was a pretty magical experience none the less.
First Mitski Album where the theme is clear and feels well explored. The multiple songs about death, replacement and isolation ring deep. Sonically a bit tamer than her previous stuff. The best tracks were the more experimental ones.
Fav Tracks: I'll change for You, That White Cat

Bruno plays too safe. Sure, he can nail his soulful singing, but everything felt too clean and perfect for this type of old school influence. It also doesn't feel like he means anything he says, but the songs are well written, I'll give him that.
Fav Tracks: God Was Showing Off
Least Fav: I just Might
Really enjoyed the prominent use of independently moving vocal lines. Feels like an onslaught of voiced hitting you from left and right. Compositionally it features dreamy sequences that make you feel like the floating Whinnie the Pooh gif.
Fav Tracks: I Wear Your Ring, Frou-frou foxel in midsummer fires
Least Fav: Iceblink Luck
Justin is a talented vocalist, but the production just screams vine compilation / apple commercial. It sound very dated, and not in a charming way.
The melodies were also pretty weak, with Justin relying too much on vocal-embelishments to try and make it interesting.
Fav Tracks: Love Yourself (great lowkey pop song)
Least Fav: The Feeling (Sounds too washy and empty)
I enjoy his lyricism, but the other aspects of this album felt so directionless. The beats were too skeletal, most of them sounded like 2015-era standard trap beats.
Not a big fan of the hooks either. The verses are the strong points, wish he took more risks, that's all.
Fav Tracks: The Villest
Least Fav: The Let Out
Modern club shi, and my queen panthress got that aura. Some beats were a bit annoying, but mostly a short and sweet listen.
fav Tracks: Tonight
Least Fav: Illegal
Sha has the voice like a warm ray of sunshine. And I guess the songs are well written and produced. i just got bored when EVERY
F*CKING SONG sounded the same. IDK, she has good hits, but don\t listen to the full albums pls.
Fav Tracks: Hot Stuff, Dim All the Lights
Least Fav: Oh My Honor
Not the best beat selection, not the best songwriting, not the best vocals. But still this RnB experinece weirdly comes together. With enough switch-ups in the tracklist and just solid enough ideas to make this a nice, inoffensive listen.
Fav tracks: Like This, Wow
Least fav: What About us?
John Mayer's guitar solos are all really tasty - only problem is he almost never has solos, majority of his songs are his slow singing. Few of his songs here keep me intrested all the way through.
His verses and choruses are just too standard most of the time. Only sometimes does he have a solid enough guitar-lick to serve as the backbone of the track to make it truly great.
Fav Tracks: Stop This Train, Vultures (Kanye reference?!!)
Least Fav: In Repair
The sound of Mitski falling into a downward spiral if goofiness, LIKE SERIOUSLY what are those synths?!!! "Working for the Knife" sound like a monkey smashing random notes in a DAW,"Everyone" sound like that one song from Kahoot, and so many other tracks are boring.
We do however have a few highlights, like the Disco-styled "Stay Soft", or the catchy chorus in "Love Me More".
Fav Tracks: Stay Soft
Least Fav: Workin for the knife
Sadly a step down from her debut, having more boring piano-ballads, where Mitski seems to just kinda ramble on. At least her lyricism really solidified here, with "Class of 2013" being a generational lyrical stab-wound to the chest. Some nice production on "Strawberry Blond" and "I want you".
Fav Tracks: Class of 2013, I want you
Least Fav: Circle
Insanely ambitious for a debut album. You can tell Mitski is still an inexperienced theatre kid that tries a bit too hard to be as wild as possible, at the expense of some of the songwriting. Her later records would have more memorable melodies.
But this is also one of Mitski's most exclectic blend of genres a mixing acapella, jazz, chamber pop, alt-rock and piano ballads.
Fav Tracks: Liquid Smooth, Brand new City, Real Men
Least Fav: Eric
Going for more of a dance vibe with more drawn out songs. Not as tight as Thriller or Bad, and was more repetitive. But still some interesting sounds mixing in Rock guitars, Gospel choir or some whack ass rap features.
Fav Tracks; Give In To Me, Keep the Faith
Least Fav: Jam
A big step up from whatever BS they did on "Beatles for Sale". But this is still very clearly an early Beatles record, which all have a lot of repetition when it comes to instrumentation and lyrical themes. Many love songs with the same guitar-backed instrumentals.
But the few tracks that deviate from this predictable formula were great foreshadowing of what would come. Love the chamber-strings on Yesterday, the bluegrass-inspired "I've just seen a face", and the ... read more
Feels like it could have been cut down significantly, as the trap 808 heavy ideas repeat themselves here a lot. But the songwriting was pretty tight throughout. Wish it ddidn't sound so samey.
Fav Tracks: Rockin, Secrets, Die for you
Least Fav: All I Know
Wow this sucked so f*cking much. I guess I'm not that into spoken word, but the vocalist here sounds bored out of her mind, and it doesn't draw me in to whatever garbage she is yapping about. And the instrumentals sound like AI generated indie rock loops with absolutely ZERO movement or progression to them.
Fav Tracks: Evert Day Carry (This one at least builds up a bit)
Least Fav: Leafy
The most "hell yeah" feeling RnB from Tyler. After IGOR i feel like Tyler got a bit comfortable, here he still felt like he went all out with ideas. This record has incredible range, from hard ass distorted bops, to serenading soul samples.
Fav Tracks: Are We Still Friends
Least Fav: A boy is a gun
I have heard people glaze PJ Harvey, so perhaps my expectations were unrealisticly high. I felt her alternative rock sound was a bit basic, ALTHOUGH she is damn good at it.
Her singing, the songwriting are expertly done. I only wish the sound wasn't as stereotypically 90s, I have heard these guitar tones many times before.
Fav Tracks; Wh0res Hustle and Hustlers Wh0re, Kamikaze
Least Fav: Beautiful Feeling (Don't let Thom Yorke touch yo shi again, Harvey)
