Jeff Rosenstock - WORRY.

Love is Worry -- One of My Favorite Albums, Ever

Pop-punk as a genre hasn't been the most respected in terms of artistic merit or conceptual significance, but a few records are definitely exceptional. My Chemical Romance's second and third outputs, a handful of Paramore releases, and a reasonably good portion of Jeff Rosenstock's discography, be it solo, BtMI, and more.

Being a pop-punk fan, when I [first] discovered what I consider to be the 'scarier' music reviewing ... read more

Genesis Owusu - REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE

"The Worldwide Scourge" is a very strong contender for song of the year, imo.

This is my introduction to Genesis Owusu and the sounds he's effectively mixed here have definitely clicked on me on first listen.

Gay! Gay! Disney Gay!

With the sudden surge in popularity of Weezer's 2015 single "Go Away," this song is [probably] capitalizing on that male-female duet energy. However, I'd like to say this song isn't as cut and dry, bland, or uninteresting compared to "Go Away."

The Worse American Idiot

If American Idiot was the worse Black Parade, then here you have this.

Sum 41 lost their vital member Brownsound on lead guitar, losing their signaturely unique metalcore pop-punk sound they've been brewing since Half Hour. So they try to make post-2004 Green Day pop rock which is unimaginative, lazy, and too polished.

PUP - Morbid Stuff

I don't know why modern pop-punk purists point to bands like Hot Mulligan being the best contemporary acts in the genre (this decade). Don't get me wrong, HM is fine, Neck Deep is okay, Real Friends... but PUP hits a soft spot between something like Jeff Rosenstock and things like Tiny Moving Parts.

In fact, I liked Jeff Rosenstock's WORRY. so much that I wished there was another band out there with that nice modern blend of pop-punk and power pop. This definitely is close to ... read more
