This album is sick as hell. It's pure chaos. I don’t know how Hakushi comes up with this stuff, their brain is just wired differently. Tracks like Kyofunohoshi are just this giant melting pot of different rhythms and ideas, being shaken around and rattling off each other like they’ve been chucked into a blender, yet it still comes out perfectly. For something that's only 20 minutes long, it's a really versatile record. It's a pretty diverse look into what’s going on in this Japanese underground electronic scene. You’ve got some really sweet and off-kilter electropop on alt 2004. Memorycard 15 and lapse both blare a bit more into hyperpop with scattered electronic breakdowns, and Underscore brings in rapper AssToro for the kind of electronic rap rock song that’s all the rage on soundcloud. For seven years after their last (awful) album, Wave Runner, Capsule was on hiatus. That was until December 2022, when they came back in a big way with the album Metro Pulse. Which is so much better than their last one. This is the 2nd big notable outlier in Capsule’s discography, where it sounds like absolutely nothing that comes before it, because in the 7 year gap between releases Nataka has gotten really into retro synthwave.
