Pinkerton before weezer made pinkerton. Except... it's better?
It is better. It's much more consistent and complicated, and said complexity really helps make a fun experience. The guitars are especially hard, and the drums? Rock solid. The lyrics are, as the tags would suggest, pretty emo, but not insufferably so, partially because the instrumentals are so good anyway. This album is easy listening with a lot of great tracks. Overall, would recommend.
And yeah, this artwork fucking rules. ... read more
I did a little relistening.
This album gave me a very special experience. I liked this thing less than I did on the first listen, yet at the same time, I gained a newfound appreciation for it. It clicked with me in its own weird way. I get why this short ass album only has 15 songs. I get why the instrumental is as strange and choppy as it is. I get it. I really, really like this album for that. It's undoubtedly special, and I truly believe this is getting all the praise it deserves. This just ... read more
Ay. Catchy, sweet, not post punk. Kinda my style. Just a nice album that's a groove with a few exceptional songs. The middle of this album is definitely the weakest. Also, Gratisfaction is literally just a Beatles song, and pretty alright for it.
This album was really mid until Bitch I'm Lugubrious. After that, it was just solid song after solid song. Denzel Curry's feature was also pretty damn good. I will admit that the fact almost every song had the same song structures were a bit, well, a hamper to my enjoyment.
Some favorites: Bitch I'm Lugbrious, Throw Dem Gunz, Breeze em out, Twistin.
An EP in the form of one lengthy song that really, truly does embody everything there is to the word "depression". This is a seriously impressive piece of art.
This is the song that made me like hip-hop.
Two interlinked songs, one a hard-ass rap, another a somber tale of a man losing his friend (who is the rapper in the first song), mixed with some pleasant interludes. When bars were spat, fucking hell, they were spat.
The storytelling is flawless. Each detail meticulously put in this piece is done to increase the quality and drive the narrative. The verses are, respective to segments, the most earth-shattering and head-bopping pieces of music I've ... read more
Okay, here we are, blue. Felt like I needed to give this a relisten before properly writing a review.
My verdict: It's great. It's a really great album. I think it's my favorite weezer album, with white coming in second and Pinkerton in third. I always used to denote Weezer as "generic but good", and here, I just can't do that. These guys simply sound good.
The songs are catchy, danceable, and have some fantastic guitar riffs. The occasional acoustic guitars greatly contribute to the ... read more
Oh yeah. This is the shit. This isn't the Beach Boys I'm used to at all, but I'm not complaining one bit. This is just some good as pop rock music, and the few progressive pop songs here and there are fabulous as well.
I don't know why there is a noise rock song on here but it bangs.
Lil Ugly Mane is an interesting name, and it's certainly interesting that I became a fan of his. I'm aware this is different from the rest of his music, but still, even if it's only this project that I end up liking from him, I'm happy about it.
This album is certainly weird. It feels a bit shoe-gaze influenced since it's mellow, distorted, has echoing vocals and has some of the craziest percussion I've heard. It's a tactic that works incredibly well here. Unfortunately, I will admit that the ... read more
This is one of King gizz's most relaxing albums. Really nice, mellow music that lures you into a blissful sleep like nothing else.
It feels like the Beatles got in the studio, picked up some instruments, and basically wrote all the songs on the spot... and it's great. This is my favorite album post rubber soul. It's anything you could imagine in one 93-minute-long package. It's a completely ridiculous journey of rock perfection; The Beatles even dabble into some other genres too and do it expertly. They even have some experimental do-hickey garbage with Revolution 9 (that song and wild honey pie are the only ... read more
Oppressive.
That's really the best way to describe this album; oppressive. It's oppressive in its instrumentals, in its themes, and ironically enough, in its almost silent vocals. This mix delivers a visceral package, making for a listening experience that crawls to the innermost parts of your gut. The tracks here are all so depressing and hollow; it's like they're being played in a grand cathedral to nobody at all. The music denotes itself as a pointless, worthless existence, and that ... read more
Sgt. Pepper is... really damn good. Feels like the first concept album this band made, and damn, it's great, it's really great. I didn't even like most of the songs here but they were so good anyway.
A very cute, chill album for a change, spreading a positive message with a happy tune. I actually really like this take on Alt-rock here, especially with the song "Real's Not Real". Even though this album doesn't have very high highs, it's pretty damn good overall, and definitely a welcome inclusion to this band's lengthy discography.
Eh. Really, just, eh. Teddybears has a lot more albums than this website says this does, and this is a pretty eh album. Honestly, Teddybears is a pretty "eh" band. I hear they started as a metal act, and if they did, i have no fucking idea how they got into electronic music.
Well, it's eh, that's all I'll say. I will say though, "Get Fresh" is a damn good song, and it was one I actually grew up with, so I respect it for that.
I will admit that I take pride in finding such unknown bands/artists. Being one of the few people in this world to witness this art is, really, a special experience. But it's a double-edged sword. On one hand, you get a lot of great music, on the other hand... these artists top at like 2 or 3 albums.
Skybox is an interesting indie pop band I found not too long ago. I listened to their other album, Arco Iris (absolute shame it isn't on this website), and thought it was pretty decent, but only ... read more
It was ight.
I didn't really find Kids, Electric Feel or Time To Pretend to be these grand masterful pop pieces like most people, but they were good songs. Other than that, the second half was a bit weaker than the first... and that's about it. This is just a decent pop album, honestly.
King Hither and the Wither Splither? Making a JAZZ ALBUM? AND IT'S GOOD?
This band can do anything man. I really wanna see these guys make a White Album, or maybe just put all their focus into making a magnum opus. Anyway, enough dreaming, onto the album.
This album starts weak but gets much, much stronger as it progresses. I'd definitely say that Ice V and Magma are highlights here, but it's overall pretty damn strong. This album feels like the perfect thing to put on when you just wanna ... read more
Oh god I totally missed these guys during my XTC discog dive. They made another band? Da hell?
Anyway, since this compilation is the only thing that exists on spotify, I shall be reviewing it. It's just a combination of the band's EP and LP, so I'll try to separate my review of those and then combine my score.
25 O'Clock: This EP is very rocky. It actually reminded me of King Gizzard quite a bit, but also the Beatles. overall not a bad EP. What in the world was a really nice song, I ... read more
