The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
81

Yipee for trippy indie rock.
I like it. It's very relaxing with the occasional banger. Pleasant listen overall. I don't have much else to say aside from the fact that it puts a smile on my face.
Favorites: Are You a Hypnotist? Do You Realize? Yoshimi battles the pink robots pt1, One More Robot.
Least favorites: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 2, All We Have Is Now.

R. Stevie Moore - Glad Music
89

So the version of this album on spotify has 21 songs instead of 13. For the REVIEW ONLY, I will discuss those songs, but for my score, I'll rate the whole experience.
This is peak pop rock that really shows the talent R. Stevie Moore has. This sounds like a beatles album in the best ways possible. There's even an a cappella piece in here bro. It's just brimming with personality and good lo-fi music that'll make anybody bump their head up and down, no doubt. The ending song is some type of ... read more

Gold Motel - Gold Motel
50

Hey, it's an unknown band! those types are usually hit or miss. What's the verdict on this one?
It's inconsistent but solid.
It's just indie pop with a slight rock, sunshine spin on it. The female vocalist is pretty good, and the instrumentals are uplifting. The sound of the album gets so exhausting really quickly, but then it switches up with catchy melodies and more complex instrumentation after song 8. It's easy listening, but 4 songs (in broad daylight, cold shoulders, slow emergency, and ... read more

Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant
85

Very very good prog rock. The occasional jazz really adds to this experience, but I will tell you right here and now that what makes this album so good as it is is the fantasy theme and execution of it. The biggest song of this album, Nothing At All, sounds like a tale told at an inn, and my GOD does it work incredibly, both from a stylistic and musical standpoint.
Super underrated prog album, check it out 100%.

100 gecs - Snake Eyes
75

A very interesting release from 100 gecs that's consistent in quality. The first song sounds like a crazy ass beat, the second song sounds like an outtake from 1000 gecs, and the last song is a bastardization of a ballad that I honestly really like.
Favorite: Runaway, Torture me, Hey Big Man,
least favorites:

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
93

Pop-rock perfection. This album captured me instantly and carried me through a blissful journey. I don't have much else to say; it's just damn good music, bro.
I'll definitely be checking more Bowie soon.
Favorite: Five Years, Moonage Daydream, rock'n'roll suicide.
Least favorite: Lady Stardust.

Kanye West - Yeezus
75

In no universe did I expect to like this as much as I did. I think my exposure to noise rock helped me enjoy it quite a bit. This album has some of the most hype songs I've ever heard. At the same time though, it's definitely got some stinkers.
Favorites: Bound 2, Blood on the leaves, On Sight.
Least favorite: Guilt Trip, Send it up.

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
80

It is absolutely tragic that I wanted to get into Kanye West around the same time you-know-what happened.
Oh well. I'm one that typically separates art from the artist, so it doesn't bother me too much.
Enough of that, what I'm here to talk about is the music
This is a good album. It's not the best hip hop i've ever heard, but the sheer ego, fun beats, and outlandish bars make for a fun experience you really can't find anywhere else. The crazy thing is that inbetween all the crazy braggado, ... read more

Oingo Boingo - Only a Lad
74

I'm gonna be honest, I love the first song. It's so energetic, zany, replayable, and easy 10 for me. I just wish it wasn't tainted with lyrics that would put anyone on a watchlist.

With that out of the way, let's talk about the album. It's neat! No song tops the first one for me, and this record definitely sounds a lot like early XTC... but better.
Sadly though, while this record is chock-full of "solid" songs... I wouldn't call any of them good enough for me to revisit ... read more

Muse - Origin of Symmetry
83

The music is fantastic but the lyrics really cringe. It feels tailor-written for 14 year old lovestruck girls, and takes away from my enjoyment 100%, 1000%

However.

This is indeed some good-ass rock music. I basically enjoyed every second of my stay on this album. Never felt like it dragged, though I will admit some songs are much obviously worse than others.
Favorites: Space Dementia, Hyper Music, Citizen Erased, Feeling Good.
Least favorites: Plug in Baby, Screenager, Darkshines.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada E.P.
88

I don't know why I decided to listen to this... just randomly picked it up cuz I always thought the cover was dope.
This EP perfectly exemplifies what I do and don't like about godspeed. What I don't like is their excessively long drone segments that are honestly boring as hell. What I do like is when they go IN on their instrumentals. I think the first song perfectly shows this. The first half is some okay-ish drone, then goes into some of the best post rock I've ever heard. And I mean ... read more

Wall Titles - 2004
29

I know the guy who made this :).
Well, kinda. I only ever talked to him through discord, never met him in person. But we did go to the same school, so that's gotta mean something.

So, what do I think of this album, eh? Well, it's got a lot of issues-- mixing, production, some of the bars just don't really land and the way he says the bars are a big part of that (particularly an issue for the first song)
Vocal effects really don't add to this, but take away instead.
Uh... it's flawed. It is ... read more

Unwound - New Plastic Ideas
90

It's official. Unwound is one of my favorite bands.
I don't know what it is dude, but I just like every one of their songs. It's kinda similar to how i view king gizzard, where they pump out a lot of great shit I think is amazing but isn't amazing amazing. Except unwound IS amazing amazing.

This is an album littered with 8s and 9s, with a few tens here and there too. It's seriously just fantastic post-hardcore. I'd recommend this to anyone.

JID - The Forever Story
88

What JID did here was actually incredible. Wow. Just, wow. Even though I wasn't feeling a few songs, all the good songs were just MMM, DAMN! Good ass hip-hop, truly. Of course, the contents of the lyrics are also good, deep, intrinsic, and meaningful, but the lyrics in 2007... they're something special. The way JID's dad just has this unwavering faith in his kid, god, I want to be like him whenever I get some kids of my own.

Unwound - Repetition
92

Oh god.
Dude, when I saw that this was labeled as "Noise rock", I was so nervous. I really don't enjoy that genre, so I figured that this would be an unpleasant experience. I was so wrong. This is some of the sickest rock music I've listened to in a fat minute. But at the same time, there are really relaxing tracks like "Lady elect". There isn't a single bad track on this record. There isn't a single mediocre track on this record. There are a few great tracks on this ... read more

Lil Ugly Mane - Oblivion Access
75

Here we are, the last studio album from Mr. Miller. How does this compare to the other 2?

Well... This album's got a lot of problems... which is exactly what it's going for if you ask me. LUM on this record, he's distressed, depressed, destroyed, and annoyed with the world, and he uses these admittedly ear-grating, yet somehow soothing beats to back up his words and absolutely amazing rhymes. The craziest part is that even text-to-speech was throwing some bars, how the hell does that even ... read more

Swans - To Be Kind
75

Second swans experience. I like this one about as much as seer, though for different reasons. Like that album, it's a very repetitive piece of work with obscure lyricism, seeming to tackle the concepts of love and hatred in a way.

Unlike the Seer, however, I didn't listen to it while I was sleep deprived. Which is both a bad and good thing. Good because I was able to appreciate the music more, bad because it couldn't force me into a different world of my own creation using the sounds as bases ... read more

Eldridge Skell's The Rude Staircase - Sookie Jump
85

This is a wild album. I'm surprised someone RECOMMENDED it to me considering how unknown it is.

And I'm glad he did.

This is possibly one of the best supreme-ultra-super underground albums I'm ever heard, up there with The Da Vinci's self titled album. There is seriously not a single bad song on this album. It's just banger after banger. It's incredibly consistent while still keeping this whacky charm you'd expect from a cover like that, and at the same time, the songs can get seriously ... read more

Ween - The Friends EP
49

Only Ween project I dislike. I haven't heard the mixtapes, so we'll see what those are all about.

Justice - †
95

Oh. I like this a lot. I'm a bit too tired to write a proper review, but somehow, the constant static-ish sound that compromises the skeleton of each of the songs somehow isn't totally ear-grating, but just really good.

Favorites: Valentine, DVNO, Phantom, Pt. II.
