Fishmans - King Master George
71

Pretty neat psychedelic stuff here. Not spectacular, but it's pleasant. This album is definitely too long for its own good but it's still worth a listen. I also loved the little bits of experimentation here and there, like the ending of the first track, the entirety of reindeer, and the shorter tracks on this album.

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

This thing is very reminiscent of the 60s psychedelic pop scene. I'm sure it's inspired by that in one way or another.
So here's the thing with this album; it is good. It is a damn good album, I really enjoyed my time with it. However, a lot of this album didn't quite cross the threshold of being great for me. Some of the songs on here made it to my playlist, and those songs are great, but they're few and far between. I mess with this album, but I realize that a lot on this record isn't for me ... read more

Weezer - OK Human
79

Beyond catchy while being unique. Though inconsistent, this is still a great effort from Weezer to spice up their musical style. The inclusion of orchestral instrumentals to their usual pop-rock sound works great here. It's comforting to know that Weezer can still drop good albums in the modern day.
High highs, and the lows aren't all that bad. Far stronger first half.

Fishmans - 空中キャンプ [Kūchū Camp]

They look so happy on that cover. It's infectious. The music is also really happy. It's pretty laid-back production-wise, and the instrumentals aren't very complicated, but it creates a great relaxing atmosphere, like a breezy summer day.
This album is so nice. It's just so damn nice, no other way to really describe it. It gets better as the songs progress. Even before Long Season these guys made dream pop masterpieces.

Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring

I wasn't really crazy about Talk Talk's post-rock adventures, but it looks like this album strays away from that journey (or rather, came before it, but not in the order I'm going!)
I found this to be a far more relaxing album than those post-rock adventure albums. It's a very unique style of pop music, which is probably why it's catagorized as Art pop. I liked this quite a bit. Time It's Time is a great ending track.

Fishmans - ORANGE

I want to dive into this band's discography, figured this might be a good place to go after the amazing LONG SEASON. IDK what "Shibuya-kei" is but I know neo-psychedelia, and let me tell ya, this is a pretty damn solid neo-psychedelia album. Not spectacular, and it does drag a tad, but a pleasant listen nevertheless. Also worth mentioning that the good songs on this album are REALLY good, and the lowest points on this album are still solid.

Mindless Self Indulgence - Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy

I was told to listen to this by one of my friends. I heard a few songs from this thing already and hated it. It's not that awful, but still bad. I really couldn't care less about the offensive content here, the songs just suck ass. The singer sounds awful, the instrumentals and his voice are erratic, and trying too hard to be crazy. Just way too fucking hard. I can't understand any fucking words on this thing.
But I will confess that there are some half decent tracks here, like the first one. ... read more

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden

Here to give Talk Talk another try, now that my music taste has broadened and matured since I last listened to Laughing Stock.
This really is just Godspeed before Godspeed. It's actually crazy how much Godspeed ripped off Talk Talk, now that I think about it.
Now with that thought to preface this album, I had to wonder; would I really like it? I mean I definitely liked Godspeed's stuff that I listened to, but not all that much with the exception of the song Moya. I had to wonder, would this ... read more

Fishmans - LONG SEASON
100

First album of 2023
It's an album composed of one incredibly lengthy song with the aptitude of growing on you as you listen to it. The song itself goes through a lot of progressions, but there are always a few factors that seem to stay consistent, like the piano(?) in the background going through a distinct melody (which does fade away eventually but it comes back). It also goes from being very pleasant, to weird and experimental, to really pleasant again. Huh.
I'm gonna be ranking it as one ... read more

PERMSKY KRAY - Post Electronic
50

How did I find this album? Well, I just searched up the words "Post-electronic", and viola, there it was. Decided to listen to it since the guy who made it is Russian like me, and since an album titled Post-Electronic got my hopes up for what the genre might be.
I will tell you right now that this album tries too hard. The creator sometimes uses sound effects for instrumentation, and rapidly changes between sound effects. The use of oppressive synths in this album makes my ears bleed, ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Omnium Gatherum
85

Before leaving 2022, I wanted to listen to this absolute hulk of an album King Gizzard came out with earlier this year. I'm glad I did.

This is King Gizzard's best album (so far). This is also their most varied album. Every song that rolls up is a different genre from the rest. It goes from hard psychedelic rock to psychedelic pop to a more funky rock to metal to easy listening to rap... yeah that's right, RAP. This album has it all. In a way, it's King Gizzard's white album. Not only because ... read more

This EP is the quintessential Jack Campbell experience. Fantastic folk pop with song topics of love, self-betterment, injury, and more. Absolutely check this out.

Jack Campbell - Jack Campbell
70

You might not get what makes Jack Campbell so great; maybe it's his lo-fi-esc production, his coarse singing voice, his admittedly bizarre album covers that aren't representative of the equally bizarre (but in a different way) songs present on his album.
There is something interesting about this artist. This is his only LP, but it isn't really an LP. It's too short for it. All he's released since were singles and like, one or two EPs. Campbell isn't an album artist (and for that reason, I'm ... read more

Kanye West - Late Registration

Listened to this on CD. I'm blown away. The sampling is incredible, the rapping is incredible, the features are incredible, the song topics and lyrics are incredible. Just wow. It's a perfect hip-hop album and might turn into a ten after a few more listens.
I really wish the old Kanye was back so I can not get weird looks while listening to this music. Not that I listen to my CDs in public, but you get my point.

Don Caballero - What Burns Never Returns

This album is so paranoid. I can't get my heart rate down listening to this thing, it's like the music thinks it's gonna get murdered any minute. If you're into music like that, then this album is perfect for you.
The songs are pretty mid though.
Favorite: Room Temperature Suite

Lil Ugly Mane - THREE SIDED TAPE VOLUME ONE

This is pretty interesting, a mostly instrumental album from LUM. Lum is a great producer, but the thing is that this album has a lot of problems with being consistently engaging. The sort of unfinished, choppy, and random nature of this album took away much enjoyment from me, but this is still a solid project. Seriously though, some of these songs just straight up suck.
Also, this shit just gets creepy at times. Jesus Piece, while a good song, kind of unnerved me. I find it hilarious that LUM ... read more

Phish - Billy Breathes

These guys are so fun. I heard of them cuz they did a cover of one of the best ween songs, Roses are Free. Turns out these guys are pretty cool. This is a fun album. Nothing special, and admittedly repetitive at times, but very enjoyable.
The longer tracks on this album are really the standouts here. All these short 1 or 2 minute tracks are honestly snoozers.

Queen - A Night at the Opera
71

The opening track for this album gave me some damn high hopes. That song FUCKS. Seriously, its raw electric guitar segments and fantastic vocals/lyrics just got me god damn excited. Unfortunately, those hopes were not met.
I will admit, I noticed much better overall production across the entire album than this albums predecessor, "Sheer Heart Attack". Additionally, the "filler" tracks in the album (like lazing on a sunday afternoon), mostly added to the enjoyment of this ... read more

Queen - Sheer Heart Attack

I was bound to look at queen sooner or later. I've been looking at some reviews calling this band overrated, and I just had to wonder, are those people right?
Well, let me word it like this: Queen have a lot of incredible songs, and one of those songs, "Killer Queen", happens to be on this album. Queen knows that this song is incredible, so they put a lot of care into Killer Queen in particular (better production), and sacrificed the quality of the other songs as a result.
