This is just not as good as I thought it was going to be... it ended up being good in an entirely DIFFERENT way.
This shit is fucked up bro. They got some of the trippiest songs on here, like seriously, what is the deal with Aumgm? And what about Peking O? Actually, I can excuse that one; it's so ridiculous it drives a laugh out of me.
That aside, this album honestly doesn't make for a very listenable experience. I won't be coming back to this album, but damn if I didn't enjoy it for what it ... read more
I really can't pinpoint what exactly makes this album work. When you boil it down, it's just a load of cacophony and seemingly free-improv sessions put on a record with one of the best album covers ever, with the occasional "normal" song here and there. But I think that's what makes this work. Sure, it's chaotic, but it's organized chaos. It's not designed to get you head-banging, mellowed out, or crying, but it's designed to leave you slightly bopping your head up and down, just ... read more
Such a huge step up from demon days. Much more cohesive and musically and lyrically impressive with some fantastic, iconic songs. Unfortunately, I found myself bored on many of the tracks here, and I feel like the record more or less features the same song but worse throughout its runtime a lot (for example, to binge is just a worse glitter freeze to me) but there's more good than bad here.
Favorites: Plastic Beach, Glitter Freeze, Pirate Jet, Superfast Jellyfish
Least favorites: Stylo, White ... read more
The album starts off weak (the singing lady kinda just took me out of it), but progressively gets better and better and transform into a majestic end... which i honestly don't like all that much, but I'm glad I experience it nevertheless.
Favorites: Ladies Of The Road, The Letters
Least favorite: Formentera Lady
This is an interesting album. It has a great set of songs, and though I enjoy them, I enjoy them less than I do songs from other KC albums. That being said, the opening and closing tracks are spectacular. Especially the closing track. Call me biased, but that is a 23-minute-long journey that I feel beats anything with a similar length.
Favorites: Cirkus, Happy Family, Lizard
Least favorite: Indoor Games.
Shoegaze alternative metal? That sounds like an awesome match of genres.
This was actually pretty solid. I don't care for either the shoegaze of alternative metal genre, but there were some good songs here and there.
Favorite: Enjoy

I couldn't just not listen to an album with a cover and name like this one.
It's sadly pretty eh. It feels like it's trying to be such a big hiphop release but it just has too many flaws. The beats are interesting, but the rapping itself can be very weak (like in Big Fish), and sometimes these vocal snippets and heavy repeats of phrases are added only to the detriment of the song (Love Can Be..., which sucks because it has a really strong verse in the second half, but the rest of the song kinda ... read more
The first 4 songs of this album were really boring. It's just slightly avant-garde alternative rock with a factory-produced vocalist and some alright lyrics. After Resolve, though, the album got much more interesting. It's still a very inconsistent album, but it has some high highs.
Favorite: Patient, Dose, Resolve
Least favorite: first 4 tracks, they were hard to sit through. Sunbeams kinda sucks too.
Wow, I liked this one a ton!
No seriously, this is actually some fantastic prog. I was sort of expecting it to fall off at some point, but the only weak points were the very ignorable "peace" segments. Very underrated KC album, for sure.
Favorites: In the Wake of poseidon, Cadence and Cascade
Least favorite: First and last "Peace". Devil's triangle too because it's just KC's version of revolution 9.
Best Boingo album so far. Really gotta hand it to these guys, they make music you can't really find anywhere else.
It's got the zaniness of the debut with the sheer quality in instrumentation and songwriting that dead man's party has. A perfect combination to make something great.
Favorites: Private Life, Islands, Nothing to fear (but fear itself), Reptiles and Samurai
Least favorite: Running on a treadmill, Why'd we come

Being one of my earliest metal album experiences, I am so glad I enjoyed it. Every other metal track I've heard in my time of living just wasn't doing it for me, but this album was just great song after great song. Maybe progressive metal is just my genre? Or maybe this album is just that fucking good. Hearts is one of the best songs I've heard in weeks, and the closing track is a nice sludgy progressive rock piece that really ties ... read more
If you couldn't tell by the album cover, this album was bound to be one of the weirder things The Color Bars have ever made. And it is. It isn't weird in terms of its sound, but its instrumentation, song topics, and the instruments used.
Now, that being said, this album isn't all that weird, which might disappoint some. But what this album definitely is, is good.
It's much more pop-like than the last album, and its for the better. Production is overall much better, too. Songs are much ... read more
The Color bars are a very special band, being one of the first I ever discovered. I haven't listened to them in a while though, and since I (surprisingly) found their stuff on this website, I figured I might as well relisten and review.
This is a damn good album. Deep indie pop with a bit of zaniness, psychedelia, and ONE song that I really don't like, regluing you. If it weren't for that song, I'd think this is an overall incredible album, but its the Achilles heel here. Another boon this ... read more
I'll start with what I don't like.
I don't think this album is perfect. From a purely sonic perspective, the fact that there is so much sound makes it seem like the album is trying a bit too hard to be overwhelming. I also think Quadeca vocally sounds like any generic emo rapper out there, which is absolutely not a good thing.
Those are about my only gripes though.
Instrumentally speaking, this shoegaze-inspired shit is hypnotic, calming, and terrifying at the same time. It does a fantastic job ... read more
This album really could've benefited from a remaster.
When I saw that the title track had a score of 100, I went "woah". Turns out that it wasn't all that great. That thing is just a guitar improv session over a steady melody. It's incredibly abrasive, albeit calming, but that doesn't save it.
So, title track's a dud, and it makes up for a good chunk of this album. What about the rest?
I would like you to imagine the sound of crackling. Loud, loud crackling.
Not only does this record ... read more
This is secretly the perfect ambient album.
Let me tell you people, I don't think I've ever heard an album that can be described by the words "movie soundtrack" quite as well as this one. And that isn't to denounce the album, no, it is absolutely incredible. The first 2 tracks are perfect ambient rock pieces, Moonshake is an incredibly groovy track while still being relaxing and calm like the rest of the album, and the closing track, Bel Air, is one of the calmest roller coasters i've ... read more
This album is much more consistent than Nevermind, but doesn't have the highs that album had. The middle of this album is definitely the worst part of it, though not by much, and it starts and ends strong
Favorites: Rape me, Heart-shaped box, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
Least favorite: Scentless Apprentice, Milk it
This record is good and everything but why the fuck do nirvana fans always wear that god damn smile shirt? I swear to god I haven't seen a band have their merch worn as much as this one, even beating out all the metalheads.
Anyway, talking about the actual album, I found that the first bunch of songs were the strongest by far, making the rest of the album seems a bit weak in comparison. Seriously, Smells like teen spirit is MILES ahead of any other track on this record. Additonally, some ... read more
This was the first album I've ever heard purely from my car radio with a CD.
It's pretty mid, honestly. The sound the band goes for here is tiring and generic, sounding like painful textbook alt rock. Also, the lead vocalist is FUCKING AWFUL DUDE. Seriously I don't think I've heard a more annoying vocalist than him.
However, there are a few songs on this record that are actually pretty damn good and interesting.

I mean yeah this is just incredible. Some verses were a bit shaky, but man... who cares when there's so much quality?
Favorites: Eye, America's Most Blunted, Money Folder, Great Day
