Here to give my childhood band some more love.
Yeah, this album is nice. Sunshine really describes it well, and that psychedelic tint is really nice too. Surf's up more advanced songwriting takes the cake for me over this album, but that isn't to denounce it whatsoever. It's just what I needed to listen to at midnight.
What an interesting history this album has.
The better Sgt. Pepper. No disrespect to that album, but as a psychedelic musical experience, this is just so much more enjoyable than that album. I at least enjoyed every song from this, loved some, and I feel as if they can grow on me more.
Favorites: Maybe after he's gone, Beechwood, Brief Candles, This will be our year
Least favorite: A Rose For Emily, Changes
God DAMN this sucks ass! I came into this record trying to like it and I couldn't even trick myself into doing that. At best this album is fine, most of it is boring, and at worst it's just straight ass
Favorite: Lotus Flower
Least favorite: Bloom
The guitars in this album are the most relaxing thing imaginable. A very consistent album right here. Not much else to say aside from that this is bliss.
Favorites: Soma, Geek. U.S.A, Spaceboy.
Least favorite: Quiet, Disarm, Silverfuck
This album is seriously impressive. A 1993 power pop record that's immaculately produced chock-full of great, balls-to-the walls wacky songs, really giving this album a charm unlike any other I've heard. I'll admit that I wasn't too crazy about most of the songs here, but they were GOOD songs, and the personality/attitude of this whole LP made this album such a damn enjoyable experience. The overall quality of this album IMO got much better after New Mistake, I was bopping my head and going ... read more
Just another great album from Unwound. My least favorite so far, and strangely enough, also the most relaxing for me. I think I got a screw loose.
Favorites: Dragnalus, Nervous Energy, Gravity Slips, Feeling$ Real

You wouldn't expect prog rock from a cover that horrifying, but here we are.
Anyway, this is a pretty solid prog record, I'm particularly a fan of the fusion of heavy metal. The first two songs were great, but the centerpiece of this album, Anesthetize, was pretty mediocre. I felt as if the quality of the album fell off after that song; the songs were sort of repeating this formula that the first 2 tracks just did better, but that isn't to say they're bad, no, they're still solid songs with a ... read more
Much like Meteora, this album took me by surprise. This album is a shining example of what metal albums need to do more in their songs; not have bad vocalists.
This is one of the most interesting albums I think I've ever heard, and that's for one reason; it is INSANELY consistent. I rate this a score of what it is I seriously think every song on this album is around a 7.6/10 with only like a .1 point of difference-- except for "crawling in my skin". My past experience (memes) with ... read more
Psychedelic prog.
The first and last tracks were fantastic, everything in the middle was alright with Son Tropez standing out the most for me. I will give Pink Floyd some needed credit here; I haven't heard anything quite like this album, and for being an early prog record that is definitely impressive.
Favorite: Son Tropez, One of These days, Echoes
Least favorite: Seamus, A Pillow of Winds.
Bro... Sweet home Alabama is a good song. It's hard to enjoy it because of its terrible meme status, but no, it's good. And for some reason, the follow-up track is a sort of prog-like southern rock song? Well honestly I'm not complaining, they pulled it off fine.
That aside, this album was solid. Definitely a noticeable step down from the debut, primarily because Free Bird isn't on this thing (jokes aside its cuz the songs are much less creative), but it still holds up on its own and doesn't ... read more
I did a little relistening.
Y'know, on first listen, I didn't consider this album anything special. With the obvious exception of "The Past Is A grotesque Animal", none of the songs here impressed me. I just thought that they were ordinary pop songs.
Nah.
There is something very special about this album. Maybe it's the way it takes all its influences-- primarily the beatles --and turns them into this compilation of songs that constantly shift as they go. And my god, the ... read more
HAHAHAHA THIS SHIT IS honestly fine. I don't have much to say aside from the fact that it was kind of underwhelming for whatever reason and pretty boring at times. Strangely enough, I can see myself sleeping to a lot of these songs, especially Hidden Power, but that's a huge boon for that track, which is my favorite on this record. Love the album cover too.
Favorite: Krystle, Hidden Power
Least favorites: Excruciating death, Ionic Funk
It's dated. It really is dated. But there's something about this record that fights against the aging, it's weird.
This album is good. It's suspiciously good. Why are rap rock and nu metal and fucking Linkin park so good?
Well, let me tell you, these guys were never bad. Sure, the lyrics are a bit cringe, but the music dude... it's really, really good. And as a boost, unlike most metal bands I don't really like, the lead vocalist is fantastic.
Edit: the corny writing makes this really hard to ... read more
Third talking heads album for me.
I'm gonna be upfront that I wasn't expecting much, mostly because GOD DAMN THAT ALBUM COVER IS UGLY AS FUCK!
But once I got past that and listened to the music, it was pretty enjoyable overall. But this album does have one issue with it that, in all honesty, might not be the best issue to focus on, which is why I do overall consider it minor.
It is so much worse than Remain In Light in every possible way.
Production? Worse. Songwriting? Worse. Groove? Worse. ... read more
The music is just fine. The vocalist is obnoxious, but that isn't all that bad. No, it's just that I didn't really mess with the songs themselves. I will admit that the album got much better after Chop Suey, but that didn't apply to every song (like Bounce). Overall it's a fine record with some glaring flaws.
There were absolutely some great songs here. Chop Suey!, Forest, Science, Psycho
Least favorite: Prison Song, Bounce.
This won't be my final Can review. Even though the scores say the rest of this band's discography sucks, I still want to listen to them more.
So, Can's debut album, what's it like? It's good, that's what. A much more simple project than the experimental Tago Mago, a bigger rocker than Future Days, and the most similar to Ege from the big three. IMO, a more enjoyable record than Tago Mago. Mary Mary is a generally good rocker, Father cannot yell is a solid song, and Outside My Door is my ... read more
Decided to give this a listen since I've seen footage grew on me a lot. I still stand by the sentiment I held when listening to The Money Store album; Death Grips is not for me.
But at least this time, I can kind of see the appeal. I can totally understand why someone would like Death Grips.
This album is intense in such a blaring way. This album is pretty bad IMO, but there are definitely some good parts here and there. Hot Head gave me autism, BB Poison and Bottomless Pit was pretty alright, ... read more
Jukebox The Ghost, look at you go. After the absolute trainwreck that was your self-titled album, you made an alright power pop record. It's inconsistent, but the good songs are catchy and pleasant. The lyrics are uh, really generic and overdone, but that's something I can ignore. Your songwriting has reached a relative high here, and your instrumentation is fantastic. Production is also incredible.
Here's something worth highlighting: "Everybody's Lonely." This isn't a genius song ... read more
Since i've been getting into Can as of late, seeing a King GIZZARD album tagged with "Krautrock" as a genre really interested me. And, in classic krautrock fashion, the songs are stupidly long.
It's alright. I mean, the songs don't really feel like they drag or anything, they're pleasant listening experiences the whole way through. It's just that, really, not much exciting is going on. I'd really just rather go to any prog record than this one.

This album is incredibly inconsistent. While not necessarily bad, much of the material here is boring and done better by most artists I already know. However, "The Chain" really does stand out as a fantastic track, and every song after that track is just much better than the first half. All in all, I don't see myself coming back to this album, but it's got some good songs.
Favorites: Dreams, The Chain, You Making Fun of Love
Least favorites: Go Your Own Way, Songbird
