Really amazing metal album. A great introduction to the band’s material, not one bad song on it.
It is a very pretty album, I think I’ll need to revisit it because I wasn’t fully paying attention, but listening to this and playing Animal Crossing was fun.
When The Kite String Pops is an odd example of a near, if not perfect, metal album, it is often labelled a Sludge Metal album, but it's influences reach out to many different metal sub-genres. Throughout the album, it consistently sounds demented, with lyrical themes of addiction, death, and many other dark themes. I love the production, especially the bass-heavy sections. It is a really great mix between rhythm, melody, and really heavy riffs. I think the vocals match the songs perfectly. ... read more
This album is full of Funky, soulful, rock songs that are very well put together, some of my favourites being You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks, and Super Stupid. However, it feels hard to talk about this album without talking about the title track, Maggot Brain. Maggot Brain is difficult to describe because it ends up feeling more like an experience than just a song. As a guitarist, it has personally inspired me, as I'm sure it has inspired many others. It is very beautiful. With that ... read more
I had no idea what was happening but it was pretty calm and helped me relax. I often return to some songs, and the cd I bought was cool too.
This album had to really grow on me, but I really enjoy it in hindsight. Just a lot of solid songs and I like the band's direction.
This is a very high contender for AOTY for me. I really like Fontaines D.C and their work, and (while this album did have to grow on me a bit) I prefer it over A Hero's Death. I really like the songs I guess.
I thought this album was really good, but the amount of people calling it AOTY annoys me a bit. I enjoyed it, and songs like wacced out murals, reincarnated, tv off, heart pt. 6, and gloria are all in my rotation. However I think other songs like gnx bring this album down heavily, and (personally) I wasn't a massive fan of squabble up, despite the excitement from the clip. I really appreciate the heavy West Coast feel throughout every song, and even featuring smaller artists which mostly ... read more
It's really pretty. Probably my first proper insight into Post-rock and I'm hooked. I listened to it on a drive back from a gig and it felt oddly calming but surreal too. I need a few more listens but I'd consider changing it to 100.
Genuinely, one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. The vocals are interesting and different, but is really good and suits the music well. I take inspiration from this album, and I believe it helped me personally. I like it.
One of the best modern albums I've heard In a long time. It's got great performances and great lyrics. The production of the whole album sounds great. I'm excited for the new album.
A really beautiful performance, full of piano ballads and darker, pissed songs, I found myself enjoying the album a lot. Apple's emotions came through her vocals and even the instrumentals. It's a great album.
The songs started sounding quite similar in the later half of the album, but I believe it's an improvement from their self-titled album. I think it's quite consistent in its quality. I feel like the lyrics fell quite flat a lot of the time, or came across as mopey and whiny, however the overall performance was relatively strong.
It's just a mess of an album, even without Radke's questionable history. About 2 of the songs I thought the instrumental was ok at best. Even with it being a relatively short album at 37 mins, I still wish it were shorter.
This is really good. I just came across this and I thought it had a pretty good payoff, and even though I’m usually not massive on more instrumental and ambient songs, I listen to this one every now and then.
Holy shit. I understand the reasons behind this album coming across as more art than entertainment, but I’ve never had a reaction like this from music. The stories told throughout the songs in the album hold into such a universal emotion and feeling. The lyrics are so blunt and heartbreaking in a way that could’ve only have been written in such a horrifying and sad situation (my condolences). The simple sound of the instrumentals capture this feeling of despair and emptiness that ... read more
