Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 26: 10
10 feels both overproduced and underproduce its hard to explain
I was hoping to come back to this with some changed opinions and yeah, they have changed slightly, I do think this is better than the first time I heard it and is still a pretty good album but idk, it lies in a weird spot for me cos I really like Switches On Everything and Mac Don't Stop but outside of those 2 I don't really get much else, all the other songs are just kinda of ... read more
I've been following this guy for a decent amount of time at this point, I think it was maybe mid to late last year that I stumbled across one of his videos and a little while later he released WHO GON HOLD YA BONES which, I'll be honest, is a song I fell in love with, I really liked the production, the emotion and rawness of it but thought it was a shame to release it as a single and not on an album, well look where we are today,
I wanted to actually start listening to Perry ... read more
dunno why i listened to this one so suddenly but it was shorter than I thought it would be so maybe thats the reason why actually.
been listening to the title track on the odd occasion and its pretty good, I say "how strange it is to be anything at all" surprisingly often but I only found out it came from this song like late last year, early this year maybe? It's really cool, I liked the lyrics in that song a lot too
the rest of this album ranges from actually pretty noisy and ... read more
Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 25: Peace "Fly" God
Even coming back to this now, it feels a little dull considering the rest of his discography, production is probably at some of its weakest in my opinion (even though there are some pretty good ones in here) and the tracklist in general leaves quite a lot to be desired. Despite these shortcomings, There are quite a few songs I've come to enjoy, songs like Big Ass Bracelet, Horses on Sunset and Danhausen are far and away the ... read more
The greatest record Queen ever released and it honestly surprises me that people don't rate this higher.
Now that I'm just about finished with Queen's discography, I've really come back around to Jazz in a way even better than I did before. For first listen, I had it tied with A Night At The Opera for their best work and while I do still appreciate ANATO, I've come to terms with myself on Jazz being a few steps ahead for me.
Jazz has probably my favourite run of Queen ... read more
Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 24: Hitler Wears Hermes 8: Side B
By far his best effort to date and it still isn't close, this is a milestone in both Griselda and Boom Bap as a whole.
Hitler Wears Hermes 8: Side B is an hour of hit after hit after hit with little to no skips depending on who you are, it features some of the best production and verses of his whole career with the features to back it up. Beats go from luxury and borderline offensively rich sounding to dark, dusty and ... read more
Listened to this with good friend @Kinraa
As a not-so-experienced listener of Metal and even lesser so of Sludge, I still found this album to be interesting in both its drum patterns, riffs and gravelly vocals. It consistently keeps up this sinister air that doesn't get too stale despite its 50 minute runtime (even though almost 10 minutes of that is taken up by the 2 interludes on the album)
Speaking of interludes, I'm not too sure what the meaning of Disturbance is and I'm ... read more
Alright, I'm back here with a better understanding of Earl, both as a person and as a rapper and producer. I think I was a little too harsh on this album the first time around but it was also within the first like 50 or so albums I'd ever listened to so cut me some slack, yeah?
Alright, so the absolute worst part of this review is that even though its been around 3 years since I first listened to this and I've grown and changed, I still don't fully understand the insane ... read more
Yeah, this is probably the weakest Queen album (Unless Made In Heaven is terrible) but I don't really think this should be as low as 54
Hot Space, as a Queen album, is pretty unremarkable. It features some pretty forgettable songs and some of their most boring production across their discography but there are cracks of good music and there's more good than bad on here, obviously Body Language is pretty atrocious but on the other hand, I thought Las Palabras De Amor (The Words Of ... read more
Honestly, its a miracle that Paul McCartney can even make listenable music at 83, it's still incredibly impressive.
I wasn't even gonna listen to this album is just wanted to listen to the first song but it captivated me, first song was unironically banging I can't even lie so I just thought I'd listen to the rest of the album.
I quite enjoyed it for what it was, it felt very bittersweet at points and it was all around just a pretty good time, some decent production and ... read more
Just like A Kind Of Magic, a bit overhated (okay edit after I did this review but I did not realise I wrote the exact same opener as the guy below me that is genuinely an insane coincidence)
I still don't really understand the seeminly random hate for some of Queen's albums post-1980 aside from Innuendo, granted I'm yet to listen to Hot Space or Made In Heaven but I highly doubt they are that bad. Maybe its just that I didn't live through Queen's hayday and all the ... read more
What the HELL is everyone tripping for oh my god man
Based on the user score and what I knew of the title track, A Kind Of Magic, I expected this to be a really middle of the road album (to anyone in the UK, what advert used that song cos it lowk ruined that last little section cos I heard it so many times, the rest of the song bangs tho) and like, This is one of my favourite Queen albums that I've listened to, I won't even lie. Every song aside from 2 or so are super infectious and ... read more
I think I wrote this in one of my first couple QOTSA reviews a while ago, but they might be the most consistent band of all time in terms of always having great output and every release being high quality and amazing production wise too.
Let me just get this out the way real quick, I honestly thought this was one of their weakest albums second to last just to their self-titled debut (I need to do a full relisten to their whole discography at some point), and considering I think this is one of ... read more
Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 23: Hitler Wears Hermes 8: Sincerely Adolf
A lot better than I remember it being originally. This one has everything, some stellar production, its great length wise, doesn't get stale and performances are also really great from everyone involved. Only track I didn't end up liking that much was Westheimer.
79 -> 84

Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 22: WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE
I was wrong. I was so wrong. I think this is like the biggest change in score I've ever done. Except Frank Murphy still makes me wanna actually kill myself.
The production on this LP is (for the most part) fantastic, I have a new love and that love is All Praises. The production on that track is beautiful I can't even lie, now I love Gunn, but his singing on it is not great and kinda brings it down a bit. The rest of tracks, ... read more
Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 21: Flygod Is An Awesome God 2
Confusingly low rating?
One of the main negatives I have to point out about this album is the 5 (and a half if you count the end of the last song cos of how long it is) interludes, I think maybe 2 of them could've been removed and the point would have still gotten across, especially considering this mixtape is less than 35 minutes and thats WITH the interludes.
There are some really chill beats on here and obviously the mega ... read more
I got quite bored listening to this I can't even lie
Listening to The Division Bell felt dull. not as boring and monotonous as The Final Cut and more enjoyable to listen to than Piper At The Gates Of Dawn but still overall a pretty boring listen for me.
It's strange because I know what Pink Floyd CAN do, and what they CAN do is make some amazing records when they want to but this really doesn't hit the mark. It felt too generic and too safe, it sounds like a parody of itself, ... read more
Sorry guys, I really liked this actually
I swear, albumoftheyear is the only website that makes you feel bad for liking an album its crazy, almost as bad as RYM, and I HATE RYM.
I have some strange opinions on JPEG albums so I guess take this with a grain of confusion
Something about this album did really call to me, I'll admit, it is a little bloated and I'd personally get rid of Meet The Dealers, head and Degenerates Prayer, cos that run was the weakest on here and the production ... read more
The final Red Hot Chili Peppers album I needed to listen to.... and it was super funky, great note to end on
Mothers Milk has a really nice mixture of funky tunes and more aggressive stuff and when I say aggressive I don't mean super abrasive obviously, but its strays away slightly and I kinda really like it whenever they do it.
You know, for being the final review of this band, I thought I'd have some more to say but I really don't? I love this band and *most* of their output, ... read more
Re-reviewing Westside Gunn Part 20: Pray For Paris
Okay I was lowk lying when I have this an 89 originally cos even I know I did NOT like it that much.
But now I've matured as a person and as a reviewer (ewww) and now I can see with my third eye, my true feelings on this record.
Pray For Paris is (arguably) Gunn with his best production, I would say performance wise too but I don't agree with that statement, his best performance is going to be re-reviewed very soon....
