Kendrick cements his place in the hip-hop canon. Damn is exactly what I hoped it would be and more, an intensely personal and intimate rap album laced with fury. The kid from the mad city grew up, but it looks like he's still searching for answers.
I like how it ranges from excellent and textured ambient drones to some killer house-like pieces. It's free too so if you don't check it out you're a bum.
Just fuckin wow.
There's something special laced within the dreamy guitar distortion that MBV paints every marvelous track with on Loveless. Within these textured, almost drone like, guitar notes you find some of the most gorgeous melodies every recorded. It's a seminal piece of music. I freakin love it.
While the production takes no brakes, HoB's lyrical subtlety is toned down to the point where many lines do manage to be somewhat eye-roll inducing.
A good mix of wonderfully textured and well produced pop songs. A few songs sound a tad too like pop standards, but still my enjoyment wasn't impeded by this. Good album, I give it a thumbs up.
Either this is the album of the millennium or pure shit and considering SiberianBreaks and austincrane have like the best taste on this site i'm going with them. The album art sucks too so i'm just gonna give it a non-rating and never listen to it.
Glad we had this talk guys.
God: Hey Michael since you're a christian now you gonna make nice fun music for the kids?
Michael Gira: No.
G: B-but
M: No
Thank you Michael Gira. You may be one weird dude but i'll be damned if you aren't a gift from heaven above. The Seer is an absolute triumph. The more accessible of the two new Swans albums that are somehow managing to make them quasi-mainstream. Even my girlfriend recognizes Swans when I talk about them, and she listens to like exclusively pop and pop punk. The demonic ... read more
In Colour manages to sound grand without being massive. It has a very subtle but magical touch when it comes to its arrangements. I also loved Young Thug's feature on the album, his voice was a perfect compliment to the song. Overall its an incredibly minimalistic album that still manages to be awe inspiring.
Swans ditches the blues grooves that held Filth together and literally pummels you with whats arguably their rawest recording. From the first track to the last you're treated (or subjected to, depending on how you see it) to some of the most brutal music you're likely to happen upon. Enjoyable, but I did prefer the more structured Filth.
Holy SHIT.
This is truly one of the most quintessential jazz albums I've ever heard of. I sincerely hope that this revitalizes the jazz scene and brings about a new golden age, because guys this is some Grade A good shit.
There were parts that reminded me a lot of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea for some reason. Not really a good comparison but both at times have this awesome distorted sound that I love. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I liked it quite a bit. Had this fantastic rock feel that was never too out there but never cliche. Kept me interested and happy.
This is my first Radiohead listen and I can honestly say...
WOW.
I love this album. This a band that understands the importance of variety and texture in music. Each song is gorgeous in its own way. The percussion on In Rainbows stood out a lot to me, and honestly I think that is what made me like it so much. It's very varied but always consistently enjoyable.
Great album, can't wait to listen to more of this band.
Had its ups and downs. No track was bad and To Live And Die In LA is a fantastic retro-futuristic track. Also a fan of Societe Anonmye. Good album.
If you yearn for the ballads of the olden days then Goon is your food. Very ornate and gorgeous sounding, if not somewhat unambitious. Still a great listen.
Sort of underwhelming and formulaic album from an artist who's selling point was his eccentricity. Enjoyable to a degree but I don't see myself really coming back to it.
After Tunnel of Love, something happened to Bruce Springsteen. For nearly the entirety of his career, Bruce never missed a beat. Every album he put out can be considered apart of the Rock canon. From the rootsy Asbury Park to the maximalist Born to Run to the bluesy Tunnel of Love, every one of these albums, and everything in-between, are great. But nearly anyone will tell you that his 90s albums, Human Touch, Lucky Town, and The Ghost of Tom Joad, all kind of suck. They were canned, bland, and ... read more
