Do I think that this record is a little overrated? Yes. Do I still think this is a pretty good record? For sure. Quadeca’s 2022 release didn’t impress me too much and I preferred the previous release, From Me To You, but I can safely say that SCRAPYARD is a return to form imo, with some genuinely gorgeous moments in this chaotic, ambitious mixtape. I didn’t listen to the EPs so I experienced everything fresh, and maybe that’s for the best, as I appreciated the flow of ... read more
A little disappointing, but not surprising, considering Mother Mother haven’t been on top form for many years now. It feels very much like they’re too scared to move away from the style that they’ve mostly kept for so long, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but this is all what they’ve done before, and I don’t think I’ll remember a lot of this. That being said, there’s not much to dislike about it, the production is solid, the vocalists still ... read more
Hazbin Hotel. As a show, meh! But let’s look at the music, quickly, abruptly, because I don’t really have time to care.
1- 7.5/10 Strong introduction to the plot and Charlie as a character with some failed humour. Great vocals!
2- 7.0/10 It’s catchy, but so full of itself at the same time. I like the lyrics, and Adam’s VA has some strong vocals for the most part.
3- 9.0/10 An actual great song between two charismatic voices, even if Vox isn’t much of interest ... read more
Look, they’ve clearly got something concise going here, it’s more consistent than I’d expect from a clearly new band, but it kinda feels like the same song 7 times over, with some jarring mixing and the typical barely singing style that is well overdone by now. I can imagine being bored out of my mind listening to a full length album or live performance from these guys, and it would help if I could actually understand the lyrics over the distorted vocal filter that’s ... read more
Chelsea pulls through and delivers my first 8/10 this year on first listen! This album is a very standard Wolfe release, with the brooding vocals and delicately beautiful instrumentals, and the production is stellar! I was definitely hoping for more of a kick from a new project considering Hiss Spun was a really memorable and fantastic release back in 2017, but I can’t complain. The highlights are House of Self-Undoing, Tunnel Lights, The Liminal and Dusk.
Well that was underwhelming. I know Simz takes a more relaxed approach to EPs, which is understandable, but this was a pretty boring experience. There are some decent lyrics but there doesn’t seem to be all that much ambition put into this, so I doubt she’s expecting to please many people outside of her fans.
Three Cheers has an incredible first half, followed by some fairly strong tracks, however I can’t put it nearly in the same boat as The Black Parade in terms of quality, memorability and being blown away in general. There’s still that same energy and storytelling that makes this band so special, which is why this album deserves to be remembered just as Black Parade is.
Edit: 90 -> 92
Ok this thing keeps growing on me, I still think the second half is a bit weak but the 8 songs ... read more
I saw this band perform live as a support act for my favourite band a couple of months ago, and let me tell you, there were a FAR better opener than Dance Gavin Dance, these guys seriously kicked ass, probably the best opening act I’ve seen. Because of that, I had to check out some of their studio recordings at some point, and I’m happy to announce that it’s pretty badass here too! This album is definitely front loaded with the bangers, minus JUNKIE$, but the overall enjoyment ... read more
I think this probably the hardest album to write a review on ever made, because genuinely how the hell do you describe this to someone? You just can’t, and that’s the charm of it, whether it’s hilarious or downright horrendous to you, you can’t deny that it’s memorable as hell. All I can say is that there are some genuinely great moments on this rollercoaster of an album.
Thanks @Legoshi lol
First time I’ve actually sat back and took this song in and it’s broke me. Jesus. Phenomenally gorgeous song, Billie is quite possibly an Angel, we don’t deserve her.
Thanks for 1000 followers! Coldplay’s next LP features less offensively bad music, but still struggles to surface the sea of blandness that seemed to plague the mainstream mid 2010s. Hymn for the Weekend is probably the most underrated Coldplay hit because I actually think it’s a gorgeous song, while Adventure of a Lifetime…yeah that one not so much. I can’t blame them for sticking to what made them the ! big bucks, but I’m struggling to see the passion behind the ... read more
This is the first album from Coldplay that wasn’t just bland at times, but actually had some pretty bad, tedious and annoying music, mainly in the first half. Thankfully Midnight was able to pick the album back up from red territory, and I’ve liked a song from each album still, but the damage had already been done. This album also features the weakest hit song until this point, with A Sky Full Of Stars being honestly kinda lame, worse than I remember. I can still hear SOME passion ... read more
Everyone was saying Welcome To The DCC sounded a lot like Sacrifice by The Weeknd, but this is LITERALLY Sacrifice by The Weeknd. I know I always say how I wish NBT would go back to their alt rock routes, but they can absolutely make a good electronic pop rock song, and Conor’s energy and range in this song is fantastic. Very catchy, sounds fresh (outside of my comparison to Sacrifice) and honestly should have been on the LP.
Rating this 5 for the amount of minutes she put into this song. This is embarrassing af πππ
Never fucking mind I just got to the part where she shouts out her supporters in complete silence LMAOOO
The Tame Impala collab took a bit to grow on me but Generator was an instant hit. Both are undoubtedly bops that promise great things for the upcoming album. They’ve certainly made catchier, sweeter and more intricate songs, but I’m happy with the results here. Maybe we’ll see a return to form from the duo? One can only hope so.
Perfectly average rock, a step down from their last album but still some catchy tracks to be found. I don’t have any particular highlights because it was quite often consistently decent on all fronts. They didn’t even try to go the extra mile though, it’s just The Reytons, nothing more, nothing less.
I can relate to this song a lot but it is pretty basic. It sounds nice enough to be passable, but it’s not creative or unique at all.
Honestly it’s just super tame for the most part. There are some moving moments, particularly in Bending Hectic, but the overall style present here didn’t really connect with me much. Thom still sounds great even if he’s not pushing his vocals, and the production is also solid. It’s a pleasant listen but nothing all that special.
I listened to 30 seconds of Tom being just about as shitty as I expected, then skipped to Ben making an absolute mockery of himself, laughed at him, and then turned it off. These people are pathetic.
Look there’s some cool ideas and I fuck with a couple of tracks but it’s quite overwhelming for me, and not in the way it tries to be. I respect the vision, but it didn’t click with me.
