Someone has to do a deep dive into the overuse of the word “fuck” in music. I don’t know why, but it seems to have become kind of a filler word at times. I think the album is pretty top heavy in terms of the best tracks, with a pretty clear best three track run from free.99, breathe, and I saw your face. I think theres a lot of good in here, but maybe too much of the same, making it less enjoyable as an album. X’s and O’s has a great chorus, but I find myself ... read more
Really great and atmospheric experience. Super easy and compelling story to follow. Some of the best in the last decade. Songs 93, album 95
Crazy to say 3 of her top 5 are on this album? 3 of the top 7 fs and maybe 4 of her top 10. There’s a lot to like on this album, and a lot less to dislike. Also I guess this album was my first pinkpantheress experience when it dropped so shout out (even tho it’s on one of my least favorite tracks). I think this album captures everything that she was working through in her past albums and eps. Still some lyrics that I think could’ve used a bit of workshopping, but that could ... read more
- [ ] Holy peak (for Beabadoobee). This ep is fun, it hits hard when it needs to hit hard, cologne is top 3 in her discography, yea the shoo ba doos in last day on earth are dumb but I can get over it. First (memorable at least) Beabadoobee string arrangements. Now I may consider this Beabadoobee peak because it’s not an album and therefore does not have the same opportunity to suffer from the filler problem. For these reasons, I also find it hard to justify an album rating for things ... read more
This album leans more into the rock persona than the last ep did. It starts out super hot with care and worth it, two of my favorite of her songs. There are some bizarre moments on this one, like emo song having a trap hi-hat on it and yoshimi, forest, Magdalene as a whole. Together another big banger. I think this album just has some slow parts, the highs are high and the lows are just meh, unfortunately, there’s a little bit of meh in here. Songs 81, album 77.
Starting this ep with are you sure is like a slap in the face to everything we got on the last ep. A muchmore rock focused sound, electric guitars, full drum kit, more layers vocals. I do have to get more into pavement. While a lot has changed, I think a bit of the juvenile lyricism remains, but then again, she’s still 17/18 at the time she’s writing most of this I assume, but regardless, this is a much more fun dive into the music world for bea. The transformation in a one year ... read more
Listening to this ep mainly as a comparative measure. I think the main thing I notice is that the songwriting, especially the lyricism, is much more childlike/immature. I think she shows extraordinary growth from this ep to space cadet, to fake it flowers, then even more so to Our EP. I think my biggest gripe with the ep does just end up being that it sounds like it was written by a 16/17 year old (because it was). This is not me saying that 16/17 year olds shouldn’t be writing music, ... read more
“I got a chopstick for your wonton”.
Road trips is infuriating because it started and I was actually excited; it felt like drake was actually trying to produce something enthralling. Unfortunately he ends up being really boring. However, it still remains one of the better moments from the whole 3 album run of the day. Cheetah print up there for worst sample of all time cause how do you make that song sound bad (and no I’m not talking about the cha cha slide interpolation or ... read more
“I call you my baby girl, no wonder you been feeling pacified”
Mind numbingly unremarkable. Lyrically and melodically boring. I think the only memorable part about this album is the bummy producer tag on the intro and how sexyy red sounds (not good). Not even partynextdoor could save the track he’s on from being forgettable. There have to be thousands of songs out there that do the same thing that this album does, except those songs are actually good. I’m not exactly ... read more
“ I reserve this shit like I’m indigenous… I reserve it like I’m aboriginal”
Just bloated and repetitive. Repetition not so much as beat or sound wise (that def happens), but damn it’s just 18 songs where he says the same thing over and over again. Best moment of the album was getting to hear “conductor” two tracks after little birdies. Releasing what did I miss as a single really skewed my thoughts on what the album was gonna be, the vibe is so ... read more
My goat Keith Moon. Something infectious about the first two and last two tracks on this album. Pure nostalgia and vibes. Songs 89, Album 91
Holy damn Save the Life of My Child is a fever dream. Overall I think the way people talk about this album kinda sets it up for failure. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Mrs. Robinson will always be a classic. Songs 88, Album 89
This album is bizarre at times. Not necessarily a bad bizarre, but just a bizarre bizarre. It's hard to really analyze such a vast album, but it is easy to tell that it sounds distinctly Beatles. I do like how it's always a coin flip between John and Paul for who sings, and I really enjoy Paul's delivery throughout the entire album, save the first minute of Rocky Raccoon. Also, just want to issue a quick apology to Jack Antonoff for not having Happiness is a Warm Gun as my ... read more
Yea yea radiohead i'm a creep i'm a weirdo for sure. This album really will never get old for me. I think 15 Step is a fantastic opener and Bodysnatchers is one of their most underrated songs. The last minute and change of All I Need is some of the best music that Radiohead has ever made. Not much needs to be said about Weird Fishes and Jigsaw. The low points in this album are so high that it doesn't make much sense to call them low points. As a whole, the album flows so well ... read more
album got me kicking my feet n shit. Don't really know what the Iron Man cover brought to the table tho. Songs 88, Album 88.
Big chiller of an album. Great openers and closer, really do justice to the vibe of the album. It's simple, catchy, and easy to listen to. Exactly what I want from big Maccy. Songs 87, album 88
I can't believe I could've seen this live but my friend got invited by someone and then decided to not offer me the spare ticket and then told me that it definitely wasnt a date. Songs 86, album 87
Who tryna sit under a half-mast McDonald's flag with me?
I kind of enjoy the country-music discourse drummed up around MJ Lenderman. My take is that many people end up instinctively not marking him as country because they're so used to telling people that they listen to "everything but country" due to the oft-attributed political connotations of country as a genre. At the same time, I think people in general forget that genres evolve all the time. A great example is what ... read more
I found This is Lorelei through Where's Your Love Now, and was really enamored with the track. Because of this, I just kind of assumed I'd love the rest of the album the same way. This was not the case. I think there were some kinda bizarre 8-bit parts to some of the songs, which I couldn't get into, along with the autotune on dancing in the club, which I thought was wack. Two Legs feels a bit too much like a knock-off Elliott Smith song, and overall, I think this album was a tad ... read more
