Bland, uninspired, generic. The list of adjectives can go on forever, but unfortunately, "good" is not one of them.
I never would've guessed that A Tribe Called Quest, nearly 30 years after their debut, would sound as focused and sharp as they do here. The features are great, production is great, and Q-Tip & Phife Dawg showed they didn't lose a step.
RIP Phife.
This is the most mature Cole has ever sounded. The title track is a masterwork in storytelling. The album itself is the shortest project he's ever released and that's why it thrives.
Cole is decent here, shows moments of greatness. Not quite his magnum opus, but it's not the worst either.
Drake is at his most focused on pure rapping, and the quality of the project is better as a result.
The abrasive, lo-fi sound won't be for everyone, but Earl hits a home run here. It was definitely worth the wait.
Trippie's voice is grating, production is mostly generic. He's nothing special at all and it really shows here.
Kendrick's raw talent is on display here. It's not nearly as fully-formed as GKMC, but it's a landmark debut for the eventual best rapper alive.
