This is definitely an album I'll need to listen to again in the future but for a first listening it really left an impression on me. Very interesting feel here compared other electronic music I've listened to. Some tracks go a little too long but it's still an easy listen.

It feels like a darker vision of life in New York City, almost like a partner project to The Strokes' "Is This It". Creates visions of like subway trains running way after dark and wandering down streets after even the bars have closed. You can find elements of this sound in a lot of similar music that came later.
A modern day rap classic. JID really shows off his versatility for flows and even some good singing mixed in. Beats are masterfully intertwined with the master wordsmanship.
Admitted by bias for favorite band ever but even without that this is an incredible album. It explores the spectrum of Deftones' sound from lulling and calm to screaming and intense. Chino's singing is incredible and the instrumentation matches in quality. An absolutely excellent record.

The work of a legend given to us before he left this mortal plane. Listening to this is like going through an old diary; the entries might not be very long but they are a peek at the mind of the author which in this case was one of the best minds for producing and sampling ever. Thank you for everything Dilla.
Two behemoths in their fields coming together for a truly ageless records. It takes two masters to create production and lyricism this exquisite and yet making it seem so effortless. Long live the villain.
Favorite song. Favorite band. Favorite song of favorite band.
Powerful and visceral. An album that maybe doesn't get listened to that often because making it through bears an incredible weight of masterful composition and raw emotion. However, when you set the necessary time aside and give it the attention it absolutely deserves, you're left crying and emotionally spent from Ethel Cain's talent for music and storytelling, knowing you witnessed a beautiful tragedy that you get into suckered into believing no matter how many times ... read more
Weighty, isolating and enveloping. The instrumentation features a contrast between quieter and more distant sounds and heavy distorted synths that feel are coming from your own mind. Lyrics use a lot of repetition that make what is said sound more and more alienating as time goes on. The length of the tracks really give time for a build that feels like an imposing, crawling monster.
The equivalency of someone telling a horrible joke that they think is dark and edgy humor but in reality they're just an unfunny asshole. Then they try and explain it six more times because they think it's so funny you must not have gotten it.
