Shinedown seem confused.
They have diluted their signature southern inspired Hard Rock sound with tons of experimentation and country. Mostly this experimentation does not work out, and ens up creating some of the most uninspired and lifeless sounding music. I got so incredibly bored while listening that i forgot i was listening to it. So that really doesnt help it.
The only saving grade of this record that helps it not being below 50, is the saong stretch of "Outlaw", "Safe and ... read more
What happened in this record? It started so well in the first 3 songs, but then it fell off of a cliff for me. No other song felt compelling enough to actually come back to. Their signature sound feels lost in some of these songs. If its experimentation, in my opinion, it failed. If its a new direction for them, im not really onboard with it. Overall, i think it ends up being just fine. Just "Puppet Master" came out to be a real banger here!
Dark Divine come out with their new record!
Stylistically its literally Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills and TX2 mushed together, to create a record that dances around the line of being fun or incredibly cringe.
And, i gotta say, it does dance that line very well. In only a few instances, does it get into cringe territory (Im looking at you "Freakshow"). Most of the songs here are just good modern Metalcore with a few to many breakdowns for its own good. But if you like Metalcore, ... read more
I dare to say, that this was just not my thing.
Yes, the riffs are cool, the electronic influences create a nice atmosphere and the vocals are good. But, nothing on here stuck with me after it was done playing. No meldody, no riff, no vocal. Literally nothing. And for a slow and brooding record like this, that is a big detriment.
I can appreciate it, but its not for me!
Converge return with their second release this year. And as much as I enjoy the direction they went here, I gotta say, I enjoyed the franticness of the last record alot more. There are some amazing riffs and sludgy passages here, making this a way more progressive and alot more mainstream friendly. "Doom in Bloom", "Dream Debris" and "Hum Of Hurt" all show how well this record could sound with more consistency between the tracks. But some songs, cant keep ... read more
Well, i think im once again the person that sours the party!
I didnt like this EP. Firstly, its really not my kind of music. Secondly the tinging of the snare, literally hurt my ears. And people complain about St. Anger?!
This somehow feels like if St. Anger era Metallica had made a Grindcore record.
The last bit of saving grace is that i do enjoy the simple chugs when they come up. But the rest is just not my thing. Sorry!
Underneath shouldve kept "Nothing Here Is Held Sacred" as ... read more

Well well, its time for my next discography deepdive. This time, its time for Trivium.
So, this is their debut record, "Ember To Inferno".
And its... rough.
It features the young Matt Heafy' s Screams, which sound like they hurt him. It also suffers from a really subpar production, which feels dated, even for its time. But, one thing ill have to give to it, is how well the guitars sound when they harmonize. Good stuff.
Ths record suffers from a huge identify crisis. It switches ... read more
Wow, what a discovery. 2026 really seems to be the year where i start to get post metal and its surroundings.
This record starts incredibly strong (some might say a bit to strong actually) with the 2-Track Song "Immersion I & II".
These two tracks hit like a truck, soothe you in with an incredible melody and wont let go within their wonderful riffs. The record, doesnt live up to what those two tracks promise, but its not far away form that either. Tracks like the Title Track or ... read more
I wanted to like this record. I wanted to experience why people love this... but i cant get into it.
Its fine. Like yes there are some cool moments here, but it feels like its padded with alot of nothing.
The producition is muddy, the vocals sound bare bones and i dont feel the emotions im supposed to feel. Sorry metalcore twt, this is not my record to enjoy.
This record is a long winding road of ups and downs....
In theory, its well made atmospheric Black Metal. In its execution, the production reaches from great to utterly terrible, the songs range from engaging to incredibly dull and boring. Also a 21 Minute closer, could have been a really cool idea, but firstly, why is it instrumental... secondly, its just dull. You could literally take a quarter of that song and it couldve been enough.
Overall, its still above average for a Black Metal record. ... read more
Self Deception are back with a new record... and its very cringey.
Id say the album cover fits the album. And not in a good way.
On here, we have the most cookie cutter alt metal ive heard in a while, while having some of the worst lyrics ive witnessed in a bit.
I must admit, the record doe have some fun moments on it (e.g. Wake Up), but these are rare.
The sound feels like somewhere between the worst of Three Days Grace and the weird side of modern Asking Alexandria.
Really not much here. And ... read more
The Black Metal legends Dimmu Borgir return to the scene with another record.
Its the first time, that im in the scene of Black Metal when Dimmu release a record, so i thought id give it a shot.
Sadly, it didnt do much for me. I can appreciate how its crafted and that there is genuine good musicianship is on display here. But it didnt stick, it didnt connect, and it didnt gave me anything i couldnt have found in other records. So it lands somewhere in the middle for me.
This is an interesting one. I do enjoy the basics here. The production fits, the vocals are good, riffs a good and so on. But the full package just is to dark. I like my black metal with atmosphere and wandering riffs throughout, this is just dark grim and evil while never relenting on its path. Songs stretch on for way to long for their own good and at some point it feels like youve heard the same riff play for 20minutes now.
Sadly, as much as i enjoy Black Metal lately, this record wasnt it.
Neurotech give us their yearly record with "In Delta Negative".
It combines Neurotechs well known variant of Trance Metal and Industrial Metal, but doesnt stray far off from what we know. It just combines the pieces in a way that feels refreshing. The heavy parts hit really hard, the chill party are soothing and serve as a rest.
No this record is not groundbreaking in any way, but it does what it does quite well and therefore gets my praises. I really enjoyed my time with it!
Wow... just wow.
A band i have never heard of before, presenting me one of the most coherent fusions of Black Metal, Atmosphere, Classical Instruments and Spoken Word. This record goes deep into poetry, politics and public critique. This record ranges from deep bellowing Black Metal to soothing athmosphere with violin.
It really was a suprise in such a lackluster year for dark and brooding music so far (if youu ask me). So im really happy with it.
Mirar return to the scene. This duo continues to bend what listenable music even means. They combine classical music with the crushing depth of thall and create this atmosphere of sound that really shakes up the idea of what music could and should be.
I enjoyed their first EP alot, then the record didnt hit for me. But this ep, again does. The addition of vocals in the final track, also make this feel much more grandiose.
In general these songs go alot more towards Humanities Last Breath in ... read more
This is a nice record, mixing hardcore and thrash influence to something close to a Crossover Thrash direction. It has fun riffs, but lacks memorability. Nothing here is bad by any means, but nothing stuck to me either. So overall its alright. Nothing i will return to sadly.
This record combines some dark, but highly produced Black Metal, with some Power Metal Elements. This creates some hooks that really stuck to me. But i didnt feel much desire to go back to it as a whole record. Some single songs are well done and fun, but I will prefer most other atmospheric Black Metal over it probably!
Black Metal influence in my Metalcore?
I like it.
Harms make their way unto the scene with their debut record "Rebirth Of The Cold".
It combines the harsh atmosphere of Black Metal with the song structure and songwriting of Metalcore to create this slow rolling behemoth of a record.
This really feels like a breeze of fresh air in the Metalcore space.
Sadly not all songs hit the mark for me, and become slightly forgettable. Which is a bummer in such a record.
But overall, if you like ... read more
