Well, my Metallica discography listen has finally brought me to this.
Lulu. The amalgamation of Lou Reeds, admittedly fascinating but weird lyricism and poetry, paired with very standart Thrash Metal.
And the result is.... not good to put it friendly. Lou Reeds lyrics are to weird for my tastes, making them really bad when they are as pronounced as they are. The instrumentals are really boring, and it creates an absolute jarring mess of a record.
I was incredibly bored, and wanted to turn it ... read more
This record embodies everything I crave for in my atmospheric music.
Grandiose soundscaped, aetherial vocals, great riffs and songs you can lose yourself in.
No, i couldnt pick certain highlights, cause as soon as I start the record, i lose track of time until its over. And that, if you ask me, is absolutely amazing.
Finally were getting some records that can scratch the itch for dark, atmospheric music this year. Really happy I found this!
I tried to enjoy this...
but all i felt is how disjointed this record feels.
Their sounds feels like what would happen if you fed Deftones some punk energy and made them forget how riffs work.
The riffs are so muddy, you cant make them out anymore. The vocals feel sloppy and make me winch. And the songs themselves really dont offer much apart from me finding them boring.
If you like this record, im happy for you! I certainly dont
Darko are back!
They finally made a whole record, that feels nice to listen to.
After the mess that the last EP was, im really happy to see this. But, it lacks the heights that Starfire reached, as bloated as that record was. This on the other hand is more consistent. It sadly lacks the experimentation I always adored about the earlier Darko records. Most songs follow a similar path and therefore mix together. Which isnt a terrible thing inherently, but it does weaken the record in my ... read more
Were going into the modern era of Metallica.
After that drastic stylistic switchup that St. Anger has been, Metallica return to their roots, and combine their oldschool Thrash approach with their successful Groove Metal parts to write alot of their best material in my opinion. Yes, the production is not the best of the best, but it feels modern and timeless whilst fitting its cause!
There are absoluit ragers on here with "That Was Just Your Life", "Broken, Beat & ... read more
This is some deathcore. Yep.
Okay riffs, fine vocals. nothing memorable at all. I didnt even save any song here. Fully unremarkable if u ask me, but also not terrible. So its in the complete middle!
What the hell did I just witness?
I love all 3 of the guys, but this was mainly a confused mess. I enjoy 2000, and kinda had my fun with Mass Destruction, but I Miss Us is just off brand and weird. There really is no silver lining to this. Im just left confused.
Teramaze continue their yearly release schedule with "The Silent Architect".
This record shows exactly why Teramaze are renowned for producing great prog on a yearly basis!
There are riffy tracks, catchy tracks and beautiful ballads here.
Its nowhere near as good as Eli, but its a really nice record for a poor prog year until now!
How do i even defend myself here now?
This record really is highly disliked throughout the Metallica fands. But here am I, actually really liking it.
For me, this record shows pure unadulturated anger and despair.
The lyrics are raw and have not alot of depth within them. But they fit their cause incredibly well and convey their cause.
The big elephant in the room, the production, feels like a combination of things. Firstly, its really raw and feels like it was recorded in a garage. Secondly ... read more
Yeah, im not a massive fan of this record.
I really am getting tired of these german Metalcore bands doing so similar things. They do modern Metalcore very well, and tick all the boxes. But here lies the inherent problem. They do one thing, that they do really stereotypical well, but thats where it ends. No new Ideas, nothing i havent heard before.
A big gripe i have with this, is the production. It has a very similar Problem, that "Elwood Stray" had aswell earlier this year. The ... read more
Now on to Metallicas 7th record, and the partner to its predessesor "Load".
This record is in a very similar veine as "Load" was a year prior. Very southern rock inspired, metal adjacent ballads and songs. But "Reload" to me atleast features more memorable moments and catchy songwriting bits, that make the tracks stand out. There surely are some snoozefests here (like slither...), but also some of Metallicas best Songs out of the 90s! "Fuel", "The ... read more
Well this seems to be a bloodbath of a review section!
Sace6 release their debut record and create alot of talk about it.
This record mainly gives us pop and rnb sections intertwined with some djent and metalcore in between. But, dont let it fool you, in my opinion, this is not predominantly a metal record. Its contemporary, getting influences from rnb.
Sadly, as much as i enjoyed other bands doing a similar style in the past (like VRSTY or Sleep Tokens newer records), this really doesnt do ... read more
On we go through Metallicas discography. Now entering the divisive era of the Band.
This record is a real change of pace, musically and style wise.
Metallica dive deep into Grunge, Alternative and southern influences to create their 6th record "Load".
This chane of pace, can instantly be felt when listening to its first track "Aint My B*tch". Its a much slower and simpler song, combined with a grunge esk riff and a title old metallica wouldve scoffed at.
But this record ... read more
Some solid and well made Death Metal coming my way. Fun rythms, okay riffs and varying structures make this record feel interesting. For me though, nothing on here hits in the way that id wanted it to do. So im left here wanting more.
It is rather just not my kind of record and im the wrong audience. But its far from badly made!
Well, on to the second big one!
Metallicas self titeled record. The one that changed their sound, their career and the metal music to come.
This has been a very foundational record to me, due to it shaping my future taste and alot of my interests in the future. So this review will again, be biased.
This record holds a relatively strong sound change. It went from the Thrash Metal focussed records, more towards a Groove Metal influence with massive chorusses and memorable moments. And if you ask ... read more
Karmanjakah return after their amazing EP in 2023 (which was my EP-OTY of that year)
So i had very high expectations for this record, as i adored the lead single "Dove", and still highly enjoyed "Eyes seeing Eyes".
Then this record dropped, and on first listen, i was highly disappointed. None of the other songs seemed to compare and the spoken word sections really threw me off.
But I didnt want to believe that i didnt enjoy this record. So I tried again in a different ... read more
I really had some high expectations for this record.
The singles were really good! The non singles were really just fine. Nothing wrong with them, but they didnt stand out to me whatsoever.
Also this intro really setthe stage well, BUT i dont like it. It feels like im listening to an audiobook, not an opening to a record.
This record will still get a good rating, since its fun. But this record really feels like it had tons of potential, but wasted alot of it in the non-singles.
Next up, in my Metallica discography deepdive... "And Justice For All".
I have to preface this, by saying that this is my go to older Metallica record. So, i may be biased towards it.
On here are some of Metallicas best written songs ever, combined with the most poor production i have heard so far.
Songs like "One" or "Blackened" are true classics, that only get dragged down by the fact that there is absolutely no bass in sight.
In my opinion, there are still alot ... read more
Its really cool to have them back in the scene, but this album does not do it for me.
It feels very cookie cutter, standart and almost uninspired. After 3 listens of this, no song stood out and i had no real notes. It all just flew by. Therefore my rating!
Im confused to be fair. It didnt sound bad, nor did the southern shouted vocals hurt it. But it was so short, that it just flies by and leaves me wantong alot more.
There are no real standouts in this record consisting out of hardcore beats, deep shouts and southern vibes.
If you are in dire need of some heavy stuff, i guess it hits the spot? Certainly nothing ill return to.
