Interscope had an absolute chokehold on the 90s and 2000s music industry, wow
This album really was an event, huh.
Fun and engaging throughout, and I'm not even a huge fan of pop
Never thought a metal album could make me feel melancholic, but here we are
I think the title track has permanently burned itself into my brain. It has become the background music to my thoughts
This album makes me cold just listening to it. Contrasts great sections of heavy riffs and gutturals with moments of serene beauty
Lazarus is one of the greatest songs of all time. Cold take, I know, but it kind of needs to be said when discussing this album
Geezer Butler is one of the most underrated bassists of all time, and he's still incredibly highly rated
Gets points for the closer not being completely insufferable, and actually being kind of tolerable
In my personal opinion, this album doesn't live up to some of the hype it gets. I get that it was influential, I get that it's a very well executed take on popular 90s Alt Rock, but I personally think that it doesn't stand toe to toe with Radiohead's best work like many people suggest
I really, REALLY love Swans, and this album is not an exception. The first disc is stellar, and I can admire the effort of making a 44 minute (rounded up) song, even if that song may have made me a little exhausted by the end of it
My least favourite RATM album (which isn't a cover album). 8.5/10
I really love how this album starts, and Cornell peaks vocally here. I personally didn't mind the jazz instrumentation on this album, but I understand why people hate those elements
