somehow i've been converted to a sombr fan ๐ญ radio killed the noise musician frfr
originally i didn't like this album that much, i thought this dude was a promising musician but the deeper cuts were very disappointing even if the singles (namely "back to friends", which is still one of the best pop songs i've ever heard) were very strong and it didn't help that around that time, he was in controversy for some rather concerning behavior during live performances ... read more
thanks to @vitaj for recommending me this LP!!!!! sorry i didn't like it but i'll explain a little bit
i can appreciate how messy this album is, particularly with the subject matter (which seems to be suicidal ideation?), and to an extent this is somewhat effective, but holy shit i hate the sound here!!!
this feels like it's trying way too hard to be disturbing, particularly with the weird vocalizations, unnecessary loudness, and MIDI-sounding squeaking throughout nearly every ... read more
this is pretty good!!! sounds like a 90s harsh noise album you'd find on cassette honestly, à la oubliette or torturing nurse's "eerie"
could maybe use some work since it's a little basic compositionally but i'm not complaining as someone who makes harsh noise music myself
very nice-sounding album, it literally sounds like a yaoi visual novel but more chronically online and the creators were doomscrolling on tumblr 24/7 while making it, it's not really as conceptual or emotional as "deep dark trench" or "WWW" but it's just a really nice little album
and "soft" has to be one of the hardest openers of the decade so far, like come onnnnn it's so good what the fuck, "tumblr" and "not enough" are also ... read more
happy new years day everybody!!!!
(and happy one-year anniversary to this EP, this is a really nice intro to the 365 project, shoutout to maddie for somehow surviving 2025)
so my main problem with cynthoni has been, at least for a while, that often the music just feels generic and more like a copycat of a sewerslvt copycat, which was disappointing since as sewerslvt, they clearly were experimental, particularly pre-"drowning in the sewer" ("starving slvts always get their fix" in particular), and cynthoni felt like it wasn't really trying to do anything new
HOWEVER, i was kind of hyped for this one! after all, hardcore is right down my ... read more
not nearly as bad as i thought it would be, especially given the overwhelmingly negative perception, which i can get to a certain extent
this album DOES try to have some sort of commentary on conservative culture and parodying it in many ways, after all while i wouldn't consider myself particularly politically partisan in most aspects, the "anti-woke crusader" types deserve to be made fun of, but the music just isn't that good
whereas "THIS DOES NOT EXIST" (my ... read more
SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FIRST SAW MOVIE, I WOULD RECOMMEND DOING SO
since yesterday was halloween, i thought, since i found it on youtube, why not listen to the soundtrack or one of my favorite horror movies of all time: saw (2004)
now to start this off, i want to go over my thoughts a little about the film itself. it's easily one of the best films not only in horror but maybe of all time! i'm not really a movie guy although i will watch some time to time, so ... read more
what it's like to watch a 9/11 news broadcast YTP while having an existential crisis
so after hearing about anime break tv receptor (roxy's hentai-themed post-nightcore noise persona, for those uneducated on the roxy radclyffe lore) i've been constantly listening to her and i was really excited to get to this album since this was the first main project that interested me
i got the chance to get to it and a couple other albums from her during a car ride back home after the annual family reunion, and honestly this album really stuck out to me since it has a rather mixed ... read more
honestly goes way harder than it needs to, the two punk songs aren't my favorite but they're pretty good short bursts of energy, nothing too captivating but they're pretty enjoyable, although "water behavior" is my personal favorite out of the two mostly because i like the instrumental better, however my favorites would have to be the title track (really good moody proto-grunge/gothic rock, even with the random samples throughout; they never really ruin the vibe) and ... read more
normally i wouldn't fw this but it's genuinely a fun little electronic album, some weaker moments but it doesn't take itself too seriously (though i interpret it as a commentary on celebrity culture and consumerism, themes that ferraro is no stranger to) and is just a really enjoyable listen
i also really like the club direction this goes into and as a result yields some really weird songs like "baby mitsubishi" (fucked up nightclub music to have a hangover to) and ... read more
i find this album to be conflicting to me, like on one hand it has a great atmosphere and i really like the mix of genres here but the samples throughout feel distasteful and exploitative, as many have said and why the score has tanked as of recent
it's most certainly no "crawl", it's a little disappointing though and it sucks because these are decent songs for the most part, hell the opener is beautiful, but it's all done in extremely poor taste and ends up feeling ... read more
now i get it, there are valid reasons to like this, but holy shit this may be one of the worst albums of all time
like as much as i can somewhat appreciate it, it's extremely pretentious, and i know that gets thrown around a lot but it genuinely is so self-gratifying, like "look i'm so edgy i say cunt all the time", the lyrics are fucking horrible and rely almost entirely on shock value with little to no depth whatsoever ("a cunt like you" being the best example, ... read more
rewriting my reviews on whitehouse since i've gotten deeper into their discography and yeah they were really bad
so bird seed.....by far their most popular album, mostly because of "why you never became a dancer" blowing the fuck up, but it is really worth that acclaim? yes and no, yes because there is some great songwriting ("cut hands has the solution" being the finest example in my opinion) and an improvement on all fronts to its predecessor, "cruise" ... read more
maybe this is just my inner harsh noise lover boy speaking but holy shit this is fucking insane, probably my favorite sewer album apart from the masterpiece that is "draining love story", it's both beautiful and abrasive and the power noise elements work really well to create this disturbing and almost claustrophobic atmosphere, it feels both like floating and suffocating
whitehouse at their most mature lyrically, but unfortunately this still falls flat for me, there are some great tracks here (like "dans" and "language recovery") but i find the tribal sound here to be a little grating and instrumentally it tends to become dull ("guru" sounding like a more annoying and pretentious version of "philosophy") after a while
maybe someday i'll find the first good whitehouse album, but this may be the closest they'll ... read more
