Tough one to evaluate. Almost gave up on it after tracks 7-8 because the first half of this double LP is really pretty bad and i’ve been a Future Islands fan. Sam Herring should never get into that screamy voice as he does in a few of the first half. It’s literally like fingernails hitting chalkboard bad! The leadoff track is decent. Other than that, just skip to track 11 and find a completely different experience. Tracks 11-20 take you in a run that would easily rival any of ... read more
Overrated album, not “all-time” great material by any stretch of reality. Shelter from the storm is an iconic all-time great. Tangled up in blue is really good. Sprinkle in a few other decent tracks and its a good album, not great.
$hit god dam, get off your a$$ and jam! But only to Get off your a$$ and leadoff track, Good to your earhole. Not much else to write home about.
Nowhere near as good as their early stuff. First two tracks are decent, rest is downhill. Not a fan of the Alison Limerick vocals either.
The vocals are bad, just bad. After a while they pissed me off actually. Too bad really because the rest of the band sounds interesting and decent.
A follow-up masterpiece to the masterpiece. Nothing left to prove! Back to back all-time great caliber albums. Can he make it three in a row next time? After this drop, I wouldn’t bet against it!
A very average forgettable rock album at best. Been awhile since The Black Crowes have made any real meaningful music.
The co-lab with Mac Miller, She Knows Too Much, is pretty sweet. The rest is like watching the grass grow!
A lot better than it’s current 59 user rating. Nothing groundbreaking or earth shattering for sure, but a pretty solid softer pop rock album. Chill tracks Up In the Air and Ten Years are great, but L Train is my favorite, a head bobber for sure.
Surprised the ratings to date are so low. Sure her twangy voice is probably a put off to some, but this album is good, raw and underrated. It has nice depth and range exploring different elements of blues rock, country, rockabilly, folk, etc. Hold My hand is my favorite track. It has kind of trippy, bluesy, stripped down feel to it with chill groovy beat.
Was hopeful after saving the leadoff track, Worlds Unknown, but the rest is just kinds average blah soft indie rock not on the same level.
Tough album to rate. There are some really cool elements and 3 songs i really liked. Love is a life that lasts forever is the one song that has a little club type beat, so still very chill with nice message and vocal. First moonbeams of adulthood is an instrumental with a chill lounge jazzy vibe to it. In Portmanteau has this hypnotic piano string combo on repeat paired with a decent vocal. The rest of the album is just off compared to aforementioned three songs mixed with some decent ... read more
Toss your pre-judgements aside and just listen. This does not sound like another typical Harry Styles installment. It’s funkier, groovier, hipper, etc. Ok American Girls is a lame boring pop song. But check out Season 2 Weight Loss (despite the name) and Pop. Both are outstanding indie electronic pop sounding tracks. Credit to Harry for pushing his boundaries and not playing it safe!
Underrated album. Love the Neo-Soul and Jazz Rap elements, some good sampling in here. I Don’t Even Know is outstanding! Also check out Stop Me, Rest of My Life, Dead Wrong and It Goes On. All very solid. Not familiar with her previous work but she’s definitely sporting some old soul grooves in this album.
Focus more on putting out good music and less on cats! Where’s my phone is a really good track and In a lake is ok, but the rest is kind of a monotonous snoozer. Overrated!
The rotten apple under the sea. Annoying voice and over produced. Check please!
I nearly shut off Scales Will Fall about 10 seconds in saying ok, what the heck is this? Then it started to build. I was intrigued. Then the chorus! That is what got me! What a cool song that kind of builds this whole world and great instrumentation to go along with it. That’s the only song I will listen to again from this album, the rest is just kind of ok. Definitely more experimental art rock.
